@SweetiePie: We always did the kid salons until last week. Maybe that's why she didn't mind. A new Aveda opened up with a great grand opening discount and I got LOs haircut at a professional salon for even cheaper than the kids'place.

LO does best with an older lady who really takes her time and brags on him. She lets him touch the comb and clippers etc before she uses them. The younger stylists are always nice and he has done fine, but next time we are scheduling with the sweet Grandma stylist. ;)

Agree with @looch that clippers are a new ballgame. Not as scary, kinda tickle which he liked and so much FASTER! She still uses scissors in the top but it's not as noticeable/scary.

Also for us - iPad or the salon uses their TV.
And M&Ms! I tell him we're going to get a haircut AND chocolate and he's like "yes! Ok!" And I just feed him m&ms one by one during the cut.

You also said barber -have you tried a kids salon? They really are wonderful. Ours has cars to sit in and TVs at every station and candy machines (hence m&ms). They do a balloon, a cheapie prize and a lollipop at the end.

My son is afraid of the scissors, he thinks he's going to get cut. It took me a really long time to figure that out, once we switched to the clippers, it's been more or less smooth sailing now that I know I can do the majority that way and then just thin out the front with scissors.

Omg that is totally my son. He is the same age and every hair cut is an epic battle...tears, screaming, running away, etc. We are actually in the process of trying to barter with him to get it cut today. He says it hurts, but I can't imagine how.

That being said, I also think my son has sensory issues (will only wear "soft" pants, hates loud noises, etc) so it could be that.

Does your kid freak out about getting their haircut?

My 3.5 year old throws major tantrums every time we go to the barber. He also freaks out and cries every time we wash his hair. Is this normal? I tend to think there may be some sensory issues, but my husband thinks I'm crazy. Thoughts?
