I was Team Green; my husband was really good at reading the sonograms and knew. He kept it a secret (and drove me crazy by using one pronoun -- and then shifting to the other pronoun -- to keep me guessing. He announced the sex at the birth, and was really happy to see me surprised. I think his knowing (and refusing to REALLY confirm that he knew) helped him prepare for the baby while allowing me to have the surprise.

I want to be team green and DH doesn't. Most likely I will not involve him during the ultra sound appointments because there is no way DH would keep it a secret.

I really want to be team green when the time comes and my husband does not. I love surprises, he doesn't. He said we could be team green, but he doesn't think I'll actually be able to follow through with it. I couldn't let him find out though because the thought of him knowing would drive me crazy and I would be over-analyzing everything.

my husband said he doesn't want to know next time, but he'll end up finding out alongside with me.

when I was pregnant with DD, my dad and grampa didn't want to know - but everyone else in the family did, and they caved after a week. it was so hard, and I'm not even living in the same house as them!

I'm terrible. We were team green BC DH wanted it to be a surprise. But I found out the gender and never told him til after her arrival. (I should preface to say I hate not knowing things. I'm one of those ppl who google who gets eliminated from amazing race or American idol while I'm watching the episode). I was never 100% sure though. At first it was by mistake. I knew the nub theory but didn't expect to get such a clear shot of it on our nt scan pictures. Then I had a growth scan at 35 weeks and I point blank asked the us tech to tell me. She couldn't tell me for sure since baby was too big at that point. But she told me she couldn't find a wee wee. Anyway Dh never found out. Everything we had and the nursery were still neutral. But I did have a bag of girl clothes hidden from him. Hah I know I'm terrible. Next baby I'm def finding out and if Dh doesn't want to know I won't tell again.

@swedishfish: THIS is exactly what I thought of when I read this thread hahaha! She kept all the blue nursery stuff in a shed under lock & key and, and Jackson was adamantly team green. It was hilarious!! I loved that episode. They definitely made it work ;)

there is no way DH or I could keep that from each other hahaha. I would accidentally slip and I know he would as well.

I don't know how this could work in a couple that communicates openly...it seems like all the hiding involved would inadvertently lead to a lot of hurt feelings.

There's no way we could do this, ESPECIALLY if it turned out we were having a girl. That would be A HUGE DEAL in our family, and there's no way either of us could keep it a secret.

I wanted to be team green but realized that I would see it in DH's face when he knew (and he would not be team green).
This was true mostly because I knew he wanted a boy much more than a girl.

I know one couple IRL who did this - the father didn't know but the mother did. I can't imagine - I think one parent would feel pretty uninvolved without being able to plan the nursery, buy clothes, etc (unless the parent who knew wanted to buy all gender neutral). We are TG but it would drive me crazy if DH knew and I didn't!

I think you can swing it without the nursery thing though. Having a closed door in your house for 5-6 months would get the best of a person. I know for our second hubby wants to find out and I really don't. I may have to cave and find out and then throw a gender reveal party.

I actually know two couples who tried this. It worked for the first couple - the husband knew and the wife did not. It did not work for the second couple - the husband knew and the wife ended up asking the doctor for the sex of the baby because she was too curious. I think it depends on the couple's personalities.

ETA - I don't think secretly planning the nursery would work though. I would go with a gender neutral nursery theme.

Nope. It'd be VERY hard for one parent to plan all of that based on the gender without the other finding out. We were Team Green and I know if I knew, I would have slipped up and told my SO!LOL!

A conversation on another board has brought up the possibility of only one parent being "Team green" and that it's possible for the parent that wants to know the sex to indeed know it, plan a nursery, and just not share the sex with the other parent.. along with the other parent just not entering the nursery if they don't want to know.

I find this highly unlikely to work AND considering it's mom that doesn't want to know, can cause some major riffs about not being able to be part of the nursery design, etc.

What do you ladies think, can you be half team green?

ETA: Dad wants to know so he can plan, so him knowing WOULD likely entail nursery planning. This is the part that is getting me on how it could, likely wouldn't, work.
