My soon to be 6 year old sounds just like yours! We are holding on to our 4-6 H&M dresses from last year. They still fit and I've tried the 6-8 on her and it's laughable how big they fit her!

@PinkElephant: ok, well, good luck. DD is in size 4 or 5 pants because her waist is so tiny. But, honestly, she doesn't look ridiculous in the dress at all.

@NorthStar: aww I hear you on being the smallest. My DD is the second smallest in her class - by quite a bit. She constantly gets mistaken for her PK3 sister as opposed to a kindergartner.

I feel the same way about the sizing, usually - DD2's "right now" fit is really the 2-4, but I bought some 4-6 items a while back to give them more longevity, and she's wearing them without looking ridiculous. I just had to cuff the sleeves on LS items.

Thanks so much for the offer - don't worry about dragging out your dresses. I decided just to order it in a 6-8 and a 4-6 in hopes that both sisters can wear them, but if not, at least there will be one to fit DD1 (since I'm getting a bunch of items for DD2 for her birthday, I wanted to make sure DD1 had SOMETHING in the order).

If you still want pics for comparison, I can try to remember to do that tonight. I am at work right now, so I won't be able to for awhile.

@PinkElephant: I actually just bought the size 6-8, our DD will be 6 in June, and she is tiny! But, the dresses fit perfect. I was afraid they would show her boobs or something, but no issues there. They are a bit long, but not horrible and for a $5 dress that she could probably wear for more than one summer, I was ok with that. Honestly, I'd just buy them and if they were big, save for next year.

And for reference, DD is maybe 35 lbs and the smallest in her class at school. Many people's first impressions are that she is NOT in kindergarten. Unfortunately, she got my height and not DH's (who is a foot taller than me).

I'm in the same boat with DD1 (3.5, turns 4 this summer) where her 2-4s from last summer won't last beyond the summer (and aren't in great shape). I decided to buy the 4-6 size in several styles of dress and they actually look just fine on her. She's average-sized to small for her age, so they are a bit big of course, but luckily that seems to look okay for this type of dress. I ended up returning one dress but I really think that one was mistagged.

@Foodnerd81: ugh, that kind of inconsistency is frustrating. I wish they had reviews on the site! I’m torn - it’s be nice to not have to hang dry a $5 Dress, but I’m not sure I can shrink a 6-8 enough! Some regular 6’s are way too big for her!

@PinkElephant: or, you could buy the bigger size and then you CAN dry them.
I know last year a got a few for my daughter and one in particular they didn’t have in the size up I wanted to get her, but it was still bigger in her than others in the next size. It’s kind of weird.

@pinkb: thanks. That’s what I suspected...I probably should buy 4-6 and just not dry them. I think I’m only hesitating because I was planning to get 4-6 for my 4 year old (who can probably still wear 2-4, but is growing faster). Sigh. This darn growing thing! 🤪 it’s still snowing here but if I don’t buy summer clothes now, the styles the girls chose will sell out.

I don't have our 4-6 sized one anymore. But we just got the 6-8. My DD is quite a bit bigger than yours ( I wanna say 47 -ish inches tall and almost 50lbs) and I would agree she would be swimming. They seem a little long on my DD.

Help! Trying to order some cheap summer H&M dresses for my soon to be 6 year old. She's on the short side of average (maybe 44 inches), skinny (35 lbs), and very leggy.

I've got 4-6's from last year that still fit, but look a little on the short side. However, I feel like she'll be swimming in a 6-8. Our closest H&M is NOT close.....does anybody happen to have a 4-6 and 6-8 basic tank dresses on hand they could photograph laid on top of each other to show me the difference! I'd appreciate it so much!
