@travelingnanny: oh great! I'm going to PM you.
@Pancakes: sounds good. If we don't take a picnic, I may look into it. Thank you!
@PawPrints: it is further away than I was hoping. This trip is already going to be a 6+ hour one with just the two of us... oy.

Might be too far off the highway for you, but Colonial Williamsburg is pretty and fun and has lots of open areas to run around.

@mediagirl: I'm about an hour north of there, so I can't comment on a place to play, but I second the recommendation for Taste! We ate there for the first time last week and I'm already looking forward to going back.

That's my area! There is a really great park that is right near the tunnel. It is called bayville park and it is really great. I think your daughter will like the playground. There is a little gourmet sandwich shop on the other side of it called Taste. It is the best!

When are you coming to the area? Maybe the kids and I could meet you to have a super fast playdate. I think my oldest NK and your daughter are the same age, if I remember correctly.

Hi! We are driving from NC to OC MD this week. I am looking for a playground or fun picnic stopping point in the Norfolk/Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach area. We will be on 58 to 264, then 64, then 13 and over the dreaded Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. I'd like to stop before the tunnel for dinner/play time.

Any suggestions for where we should stop that isn't too far out of our way? I saw the Mount Trashmore playground but that would send us at least 30 minutes out of our way.
