@MarieJ: it's a virus and we don't really have too many effective treatments for viral illnesses... But as you saw, most of the time coxsackie ends up being very mild :)

We just got over it in our house too.

@irene: I'm just seeing this, sorry! She never had a fever. Weird! All she had was the rash like symptoms and those three little blister bumps on her big toe...they looked more like a dry skin bump rather than a blister.

@Mrs. Jacks: I'm relieved to hear that. I guess I am more shocked that there isn't a medicine or anything to help them get over it quickly. Our ped office said it's just something you have to wait out.

Coxsackie virus (hfm) isn't something to stress too much over. When I see a kid with it, I'm always relieved because I know it isn't something serious.

It does look like the HFM blisters when we had it...... but she should have had a fever. For us, we had the fever first (102.5F) THEN the "blisters" when the fever is tapering off.

Regardless, I realize this was 2 days ago so she should feel a lot better by now! :)

@MamaG: sorry about the poor picture quality. The "blisters" on her feet are really hard to capture because they blend in so well. Did your LO develop a rash like what she has?

It's hard to tell. Bi can't really see anything on the bottoms of the feet. A clearer picture might help. No fever? LO had a fever up to 102 for probably 8 hours.

Does this look like it could be HFMD? She has a rash on her feet and legs & like 3 little bumps on her feet that look lol they could be blisters. No fever or cranky.

We just had it at our house last week. Thought little one was teething, but come to find out had a mouth full of blisters. I think almost the entire class had it. Got passed along to me, but DH avoided it. Little one was not herself for 4 days, didn't want to eat, super cranky and up multiple times at night. The blisters on her hands and feet didn't seem to bother her at all. I took her to the MD, they suggested tylenol to keep her comfortable and mylanta before her bottle to make it more comfortable for her. In all, lasted 4 days for her.
I had high fever one night and developed blisters on my feet, hands and mild sore throat over the next couple of days. Blisters on hands/feet hurt like crazy for two days, but are slowly going away. Been 1 week for me now total. I only felt bad for 2 days.
Doctor said she could go back to school whenever she felt better because she never had a fever.
Glad it's over for sure an hoping we don't get it again, but overall it could have been much worse!

My nephew had that a few months ago (20 months old). There's no meds for it, he just had to wait it out. The blisters in his mouth really bothered him so he was on room temp soups, yogurt, popsicles, and soft foods. It cleared up within the week and he was kept at home away from other kids.

One of my LO's had it. From what I remember, the blisters seemed to stay around for a long time...That part was annoying. Overall, its not the worst illness. Just feeling crappy and having to deal with the blisters. Luckily out other LO didn't get it.

We had hand foot and mouth disease before. We weren't officially diagnosed because we were abroad but we have called back to the US and sent pics to our pediatrician, and they think it was HFM.

Don't worry too much, it is not THAT bad really..... For us it onset with a 102.5 fever, and LO slowly refused to eat. He only drank milk and water... for 3 days! At times he seem to be able to eat a few cheerios. When he first got the fever, I notice a "diaper rash" developing which really didn't look like a diaper rash... it was scattered red dots all over his butt. The fever was gone in a few days. After that, it was the red dots coming up on his hands and feet. very scattered, not that many. I didn't /couldn't see these in his mouth, but judging from him refusing to eat anything, I think there must be a few in his mouth. I got it from him later, and I had very similar symptoms except I didn't have a fever. It was really not so bad. ETA: I didn't have a "diaper rash" either LOL

Don't worry! I hope it is not HFM for your LO, but if it is, just manage her fever, and give her milk and water, and yogurt and ice-cream will help sooth her wounds in her mouth.

Yup, LO had it just before she turned two for the first time. She was home from daycare for 3 days (plus a weekend, I believe). DH got it about a week later and it was significantly worse for him than LO.

Our daycare requirement is that they can't return until they are done with "fluid filled blisters".

Xander was never officially diagnosed, but he definitely had it because he gave it to me!!! It actually bothered ME a lot more than it did him, and it didn't affect either of our mouths. But it did make his eczema really flare up, poor guy!

my LO got this within a couple of weeks starting daycare...he had bumps on his toes, fingers and i think he had blisters in his mouth cuz he was refusing BM and the bottle (even though the doctor said she didn't see any blisters)...luckily my DS bounced back after 2 days but my heart sank to see him miserable.

For some silly reason, I have had it four times in the last five years. Doc's can't figure out why, but hopefully your LO will be ok and a ped check is a good call, or whatever needed if any symptoms pop up! Wonder if ped could prescribe the stuff for it and then you can get it in a hurry if symptoms were to appear!

Has anyone's LO been diagnosed with this?

A child in my daughter's classroom at daycare has been diagnosed. I just found out today (they found out Monday) because my daughter had a case of diarrhea and she stayed home yesterday. Well yesterday morning, I saw a couple of bumps on her leg and thigh and didn't think much of it until today when the teacher told me about the child that has this.

As far as I know, she has no blisters in her mouth. I know for sure there aren't any on her feet or hands. I will check her for sure today when she gets home. I'm freaking out! Oh the joys of daycare :(

ETA: I plan on calling her pediatrician to get her fully checked out.
