My local dry cleaner washes them. They also have curbside pick up/ drop off. I just called when I was outside and he came and took it from me. It was $30 or $40 which felt a little expensive but so easy.

One thought...while this will lead to some dripping on your floor, once it is wet and hand-wrung out, you might be able to get it into your washing machine for a "spin and drain" cycle so that it will hang-dry faster.

I wash my king-size quilt (so it's large, but thin) in my washing machine, as well as my kids' sleeping bags, even though the tags suggest they be washed in a commercial machine only....and that's just because I don't have time for a laundrymat , not because of COVID (I've always done it).

Ok, after a potty training incident I needed to wash the cover of our couch/futon from wayfair but it had padding sewn in to it so it couldn't go in the washer at all.

I filled the bathtub up about 1/4 high, put a few tbsp of tide in, swirled it around. Then agitated it around by hand until I felt it was clean. Drained it all, rinsed repeatedly with the shower head (much easier if you have a removable one) and then spread it out to dry on clean floor with a box fan propped on the edge.

After all that, I didn't think it was that bad. The worse part was trying to get it dry. It took so long for it to dry even with me moving the box fan around and opening the window for more airflow. But I didn't want it on anything else while it was wet.

I wonder if your laundromat or dry cleaner would do it as dropoff/pickup to limit contact? Maybe call ahead? Probably worth the extra cost.

You could also just hand wash the edges in the tub, that seems more doable, maybe one side at a time and hang to dry in the shower? But I think it could get difficult fast so I’d have a backup plan. King size is just huge.

No experience here.. because just the thought of having a wet king comforter scares me... and then how it is going to dry fast enough and is it going to be lumpy? Would your dryer fit your king comforter?

@Mrs. Carrot: I take our comforter to the dry cleaner, but it’s down. If it’s cotton you could try to hand wash it, but I feel like it’d be a challenge!

I think you'll probably hate yourself, but look up strip cleaning - I think that's a way of cleaning stuff like this in a bathtub.

Has anyone ever hand-washed a king-size comforter at home with good results and if so, how did you go about it? Our washing machine isn't big enough and I really want to avoid going to a laundromat in the current environment, but our comforter is getting very icky around the edges especially. I have a bath tub and a standing shower and open to any ideas (including the "you'll hate yourself, don't do it" advice).
