When my son and husband got it, it was just mouth blisters but never any rash. It’s definitely possible.

My daycare just had an outbreak and the director told me that one of the kids only had a single blister in his mouth.

My DD had a very mild case when she was ~8 months and she only had a few blisters in the back of her throat and a fever. She never got blisters anywhere else - if we hadn’t taken her to the pediatrician we probably never would have known it was HFM.

When my son had HFM, he did not get the blisters until he was almost better, definitely more than three days after the onset of symptoms, and after the fever went away. FWIW my husband caught it, with the same progression.

@fancyfunction: Agreed, I'd almost rather she get the blisters just so that I know for sure rather than dealing with mystery fever!

@Sams Mom: Thanks for the response! That sounds awful :( I suppose I should feel fortunate that all she has is the fever and no appetite rather than having to deal with vomiting/diarrhea/etc.

Same thing here! Went to Dr on Wed and she diagnosed saying throat was a bit red and lymph nodes swollen. He's had low-grade fevers ever since then but no rashes/blisters. We're going back tomorrow b/c I just want some more answers. I'm actually hoping he has blisters in his throat so at least we'll know it's hfm and hopefully it will go away soon! Hope your daughter feels better soon!

The NP at my son's pediatrician's office diagnosed him with HMF, but he never had blisters. He had a high fever, couldn't keep much down, diarrhea, constantly screaming (he was 5 months old at the time). I ended up having to use tylenol suppositories to manage the fever because he would puke the medicine back up.

I ended up getting what he had, no blisters for myself either. Fever, diarrhea, swollen lymph nodes, couldn't keep water down even.

Is it possible to have hand, foot, and mouth with NO rash/blisters?

My daughter's daycare sent out an email on Friday to let us know that they'd had a few cases of HFM confirmed that day. She was at the daycare Tuesday-Thursday and came down with a low fever Friday morning, which then shot up to 40 on Saturday and has mostly stayed high since then. As soon as I saw their email, I suspected HFM because the timing fits for the incubation period, but the catch is that she does NOT have any rash/blisters anywhere and it's been over 3 days now since she first got sick.

We did take her to the doctor to check for the possibility of an unrelated bacterial infection, but that has been ruled out. Other than a high fever and swollen/painful lymph nodes, she doesn't seem to have any other symptoms of anything.
