I should add that the physical tantrums are rare these days. After a few attempts, LO1 is now much more go-with-the-flow and usually just accepts that, when I say it's time to go, we're going, one way or another. Eventually they do come quietly, without muscling involved.

LO1 (at the time around 23 months) and I had a come to Jesus moment when he pitched a fit while I was wearing LO2 (around 1 month old) and scooped him up as well. My right hand under his left armpit, forearm across his chest, and crook of my elbow under his right armpit - basically, this...

Anyway, he almost fell right on his head from all the kicking and flailing, and scared himself enough to calm down. I put him down and held his hand in a vice grip, and we left. Ever since then, that's what we do - the experience scared me enough that I will not attempt to carry a physically tantruming toddler while wearing LO2. I take his hand, say "okay, time to say bye-bye" and walk off. Sometimes there is dragging involved, but usually not. Better that than either of them doing a header.

I also started wearing LO2 a lot less when I thought physical restraint might be called for, though. He stays in the bucket seat during most trips to the library and playground, so it's easier to haul the toddler off with LO2 safely secured. The physical logistics of (sometimes literally) juggling a big, strong toddler and an infant have been the hardest part of this whole parenting two kids thing ;)

I hip carry E and basically just muscle her up with an arm. It's awkward but I don't have to do it too terribly often. Also, T is now 8 weeks old and doesn't feel as delicate so that helps!

I do bribe her with a Popsicle to leave the park because it's too far to force her and I worry about her dashing in the street

My situation is a little different because I have twins, but I often wear one (on my back) and carry the other when we are going to story time, classes, activity gym, etc. I have found two things work really well - 1. Wearing on my back (depending on how you're babywearing and what your comfort level is, this may not be possible yet) so my hands are free to grab the other baby and 2. Wear on my hip (with a robins hip carry in my woven) and be able to grab the other baby and carry her on my other hip. Both options give me one or two hands that are free to corral/carry my other toddler.

It took a bit of time for me to work it out! My LO is 2. If she's not pitching a huge fit - like kicking and stuff, I figured out a way to pick her up and carry her on my hip with the baby in the carrier. If she is kicking and hitting, I just wait her out and then pick her up. If we're walking and I have the stroller, I can strap her in even when she's throwing a big fit by standing off to the side and doing it so the baby doesn't get hit. And just the complicatedness of it has made me less inclined to pick her up overall so she's gotten more practice at it and throws less fits about it now. The only times I have had to drag her is when we're in the middle of the road and she has a fit, and then I just drag her to the corner and we re-group. It takes 100x longer now than it did when I could just scoop her up!

I'm new to this two kid thing. LO2 is three weeks and LO1 is almost 2.5. I didn't realize how much I was relying on physically controlling LO1.

Yesterday it was time to leave the neighbor's house and I was wearing the baby. I gave her warning that we had to go home, I explained why, tried 'say goodbye'. Nothing I tried was working. Normally at that point I would pick her up and take her home but I was wearing baby. I tried to grab her hand but immediately decided dragging her home didn't feel right. I eventually lured her home with a bribe of TV but I was so desperate at that point. If that didn't work I had no other ideas. I don't want to go out again without a plan.

How do you get your toddler to go with you while wearing a LO?
