C never cared that they were the same toys, she still loved them. She was OBSESSED with the birds on her Snugabunny swing and loved her Lamaze peacock and robot in the car.

@Weagle: I just bought LO one of those this week and she LOVES it! I swapped out a couple of her activity mat toys this week (4.5 months) for one of those and a new rattle.

@MungBean:  oh!  That looks cool!

@photojane: one of the toys on her hanging bar has a ball with those beads in it. She quite likes that one a lot!

@mrskc: I'll check those out! We were gifted some Sassy wrist things (no sounds or anything) but she's never interested when they're on her wrists.

@littlecasita1122: oh that reminds me I did buy an Eric Carl toy! I have one Lamaze dragon that we hung by the side of her swing so she can stare at it. Definitely has a lot going on and I figure it will be more fun when she can touch it - it's sooo big for her right now! Thanks on the Kohl's tip! Her actual fave bird is one I got there from a gc!

@ladyfingers: we have the skip hop too and she is happy to stay on the mat a little bit longer these days! The calamari sounds great for when she can start grabbing! She is already swatting at the owl! Good tip on the mirror too!

Looks like I'll be ordering some toys tonight! Thanks for the suggestions!

We have a skip hop gym and like @photojane: he has a strong preference for the owl! So I usually position him so he can swat/grab at that but rotate him so he's looking at different stuff just so he's exposed to lots of colors/texture:sounds. We also have the Lamaze Captain Calamari, which he LOVES. It was the first thing he grabbed when he started grabbing, it has lots if tentacles and a hanging ball full of beads and teething rings do its very tactile and easy to grasp.

We also have the same mirror as @mungbean: and when he gets cranky and needs a change of scenery I rig it so it straps onto the "ceiling" of the gym and he can stare up at himself. He gets a big kick out of that.

I second the Lamaze stuffed animals and toys. We have one of those and an Eric Carle elephant toy. Lots of colors to look at, most of them make the crinkly noises that babies loves. I found Kohls has a good selection of them. Other than those, we just had lots of rattles and small toys that all had loops for hanging so I would swap every few days.

I swap them around. My sons favorites have been the Lamaze peacock, sassy go go bugs & sassy jitter bugs. He still likes them at 6 months.

At 10 weeks Sadie is starting to determine preferences, so I like keeping the hanging toys the same. This way she can decide which ones she likes as she begins to reach for them & swat at them! There's a little clear ball full of beads that she seems to be going after more than the others. It's so neat to watch her. :) I think they're much too young to get bored with toys!

I think I started swapping them out when she was around 8 weeks old and was sitting in her bouncer (we had the Tiny Love Gymini bouncer and it's easy to swap out toys on it). We had a handful of rattles/toys that we rotated. She also really liked this mirror: http://www.amazon.com/Sassy-Crib-and-Floor-Mirror/dp/B002J4U8M0

My LO LOVED the Infantino hanging chimes. She actually still plays with them a lot. They were the first toy that she reached for. We didn't change them out much until she was several months old.

K has been increasingly alert and will stare at her hanging bar, things on the activity mat, the TV, the wall..

I'm wondering if we should rotate and change up the hanging toys she looks at so they're not always the same thing. Also, what other kind of toys do you suggest for little ones to stare at? Obviously at 6 weeks, she's not "playing" with anything yet. But she seems to like looking at stuff and the rattle we have. Suggestions? Do you change out hanging toys regularly for their interest?
