@heartonastring: it is possible she's overtired- she yawns and rubs her eyes before I start feeding her and doing bedtime. But it seems so close to waking up from the last nap. Last night we did put her down extra early and she went to sleep ok but woke up an hour later and screamed and had to be rocked back to sleep. So I don't know. I can try putting her down earlier tomorrow.

We are dealing with bedtime screaming over here. It's definitely teething in our case and I read that the pain is worse at night. Try Tylenol if you can, and hang in there.

Is it possible she's overtired? DD started doing this recently after months of going down at the same time with no issues. Once we moved her bedtime back she started going down again without any more crying.

@petunia354: I can't tell if they are swollen- it's hard to get a good look but I also never looked closely before. I think they are.

@swedishfish: I'll try putting pressure on them and see what happens next time. I'm not against giving some Tylenol I just want to make sure it will help, you know? But I'm not going to make her be in pain if I can fix it temporarily. (And this is someone who cried about taking a Tylenol while I was pregnant!)

DS just turned 1 but he has been the same way. He's definitely getting some more new teeth so maybe C is going through the same. Can you tell if her gums are swollen? We put him down and then he is back up and screaming within a few hours. It's miserable...I know!! I'm sorry :(

Stick your finger in her mouth and rub her gums. If she calms down a little then it's probably teething pains. Pediacare would help if you feel comfortable giving her some.

I don't know what is going on with C at bedtime. Ever since we got home from Christmas travels on Sunday, every night she absolutely freaks out after we put her down for bed.

She is 5 months. For over a month, we have been putting her down awake, following the same routine, at night and she puts herself to sleep. She'll fuss or at most cry or whimper for a few minutes, then go to sleep. Same for naps. Even while we were away, she was able to put herself to sleep without a problem.

Ever since we got back, she has been just crying and screaming after we put her down. At first I thought she was overtired, or adjusting from the time change, or adjusting to being back home. But she is napping fine (putting herself to sleep), sleeping OK once she is down, and just so, so unhappy at night. She is fine when I put her down, fusses for a few minutes like normal, then the screaming starts. We have resorted to nursing or rocking to sleep, after doing CIO a month ago, because we can't listen to her cry like that.

I've been suspecting teething all week, could that be mostly affecting her just at night? I really hate to undo the sleep training that we did, but I also cannot let her cry in that distress so I don't see what else we can do. Anyone else experience this?

After we rock or nurse her to sleep, she sleeps pretty much like normal (1-2 wake ups to eat, goes back to sleep no problem), though last night she was up extra times.
