My ped said that almost all babies have a bit of reflux in the beginning--because their throat parts aren't all the way formed yet! (That's a very non-scientific explanation, but you know what I mean. Ha!)

I'd just keep an eye on it. You'll know if it starts bothering/hurting her.

My doc just said my 2 month old likely has reflux and if she's happy and gaining well we would just leave her. She said they improve as they get older too.

@SeptMomma12: I have had 2 reflux babies, I would say if they are happy and showing no signs of pain skip the meds. It's actually been proven that medicine only works 50% of the cases anyway, so if the doc doesn't think you need it and your baby is content I would stick with it. And IF it gets worse and baby shows signs of pain then call it in, it's as easy as that.

I literally just got off the phone with the nurse's line to switch my baby's reflux medicine because it's getting worse, although she's a happy refluxer she has severe spit up and I'm concerned about lack of weight gain which was a major issue with LO1 (like she did not double birth weight until she was over 1 year old...)

@SeptMomma12: not really, because it's not actually helping anyway. I don't think it would have made a difference. I'm trying to get another medication for him now

@yellowbird: That's kinda what I'm afraid of. Do you wish you had started the Zantac sooner?

My baby was a happy reflux baby in the beginning, then around 9 weeks he started getting miserable. We started Zantac then. We're still struggling at 11 weeks.

We had LO's one month appointment yesterday and when I mentioned what I'm noticing (lots of spit up, occasional vomiting, wet burps, hiccups, gagging, etc.), the doctor said LO is a classic case of reflux. But since she's gaining weight and generally a very content baby - sleeps well and doesn't cry much - there's no need to medicate. I'm happy not to medicate, especially because LO is already on long-term antibiotics for a kidney problem, but I'm concerned that she might be uncomfortable and we're not doing anything about it. Anyone else have a "happy reflux" baby? Did you medicate?
