I went a few years ago with my HP obsessed friend. She was in heaven and I (a casual fan) really enjoyed it too. It is really, really well done. My advice would be to stay on site to get the perks as it’s hella expensive to do just one day coming from off site.

There isn’t a ton at Universal parks for younger kids to do, to be honest. I’d be more inclined to choose February to give yourself a better chance at warmer/pool weather.

Oh - and I’ve never been - but Volcano Bay looks awesome !! If I ever did a Universal-focused trip I would definitely make time for there.

@poppygirl15: very helpful thanks! I was thinking about that as well - we only have one shot but we should have time to split up for sure. My 6yo will be all about meeting a Transformer elsewhere in the park

@bhbee: hi! My 5 year old was just along for the ride and honestly got a little bored. We just got season tickets so we didn’t try out the wand much last time. I think he’ll have some fun trying out his sister’s next time but it was all a bit beyond him. The flight of the hippogriff roller coaster is mild & fine for him, but he wasn’t tall enough for the other HP ride. You might want to plan on doing some time as a family and splitting up so younger ones can do other rides while the older kids have fun in Hogsmeade. We’re actually taking my daughter back with a friend for her bday just so she can take her time without little bro wanting to move on.

@poppygirl15: thank you, yes I am excited about the wands! I’ve hoping it’s not too busy and we can do it multiple times so each older kid may have a shot.

I’m curious how did your 5 year old do with it all? Was he into HP or just along for the ride?

Hi! We just took our daughter to HP Hollywood so apologies if this info doesn’t transfer. The coolest thing we did was go to Ollivanders where she had the luck to be selected to wand selection. She got to “try” a couple wands and do magic with them until she “found” her wand. It was awesome. Allegedly they pick the person at random from each group, but we were lucky that my daughter was (a) the only HP-aged kid in the group (little brother is 5), (b) wearing her HP robes and (c) bouncing with excitement. of course, then you have to buy the $50-some wand, but you can use it to do magic throughout Hogsmeade. You can also just buy the interactive wands sans Ollivander wand selection. Have the best time!!

Anyone been to HP at Universal with kids and want to give me some tips??

We are just starting to plan a trip for my oldest’s 10th bday. She is OBSESSED with HP and we’re planning 3 days in the park. I think she will want to repeat some things but more than that I don’t want to feel like we have to rush since we’ll have a 3 year old too (and a 7 year old - he likes HP but we’ll also hit up some other things at Universal). I’m thinking we’ll aim for early in the park, come back to nap etc, go back later in the day.

Our plan is to stay on property to get the perks from that. Probably end of January or maybe early February.

Any tips welcome, for kids or adults!
