It was crazy. When my DH first moved in and I was showing him how to use the alarm. I entered the duress code. I reset it quickly. I didn't know that when you enter the duress code that they show up regardless, even if you reset. And of course the officer was very skeptical of me saying everything was fine since DH was hovering over the top of me at the door. I lived in a second floor apartment with interior entrances. They wanted to see the layout of my apartment as they had someone barricaded in the same unit in the next building over. He was asking about one of my neighbors. It was the middle of the day, he immediately showed me his badge, D was home, and I could see the patrol car. </p> <p>Also, when I lived in NOLA...there was a police chase around my house! Like the guy was running through our backyard and down the alleys that lined our house! It was night time, and there were dozens of officers, (at least a dozen) plus dogs. They were knocking to tell us to stay down and away from windows, because the suspect was armed (he had shot a cop). </p> <p>And several times when I was in high school. I had stepsiblings who were constantly in trouble, and were being looked for. When we lived in an apartment, our downstairs neighbor called in a complaint at 4:30pm to complain that it sounded like children were running around. (Wtf?) My kids were 1.5 and a newborn. I don't even have a peep hole, which I hate, so I opened the door right away-- I was hosting a play date so there were six other moms and babies in the living room. My neighbor had reported someone trying to get into her unit. </p> <p>Yeah turns out it was my friend. I had given her my keys when she went to get something from the car and she came back to the wrong floor and tried to get into the apt upstairs. Oops. We explained to the cop, who explained to the upstairs neighbor. </p> <p>Fire fighters banged on our door in the middle of the night once in an old apt. Scared the hell out me and DH slept through the whole thing. A couple steps from the house they changed direction and charged the house two doors down. We had two cops come to investigate and at some point while they were there, they decided they weren't sure the intruders were gone and drew their weapons. Terrified me. The intruder was actually gone, though. I ran into one of them at a coffee shop the next week and we had the most awkward conversation. I'm pretty sure the other cops with him thought we must have just broken up or something. I was sitting in the couch enjoying double nap time. All the sudden someone pounded on the door and rang the door bell. I jumped up to go check it out and it's an armed policeman. He has a badge and looks legit but he's alone. He says he needs to talk to me and open the door. He won't tell me what it is regarding. I felt like it was a scam and I was going to be murdered! He kept telling me to open the door which felt like a red flag to me.</p> <p>I called 911 to confirm he was legit. It turns out he was real and here to check on a 911 call that they "pinged" to my house. What!? I def didn't call 911 so I'm not sure what that's about. </p> <p>Having two kids in the house has really made me paranoid. </p>
