My mom mentioned that it would have been nice if they would have named one of them after our side of the family. So we plan on trying to name one of our children after my side of the family. I fell in love with a name (a flower) and it was kind of meaningful to us as a couple. I knew I wanted to name our first girl that. But then I realized it was SIL's middle name! Even though she never uses the name, everyone would have assumed DD was her namesake and I didn't want to have to repeat our reasoning for picking it. It took me awhile to come to terms with not using the name. Its just that, if we used that name, it wouldn't be because we were naming him for her.<br /> Is there any way to use a name that is the same or similar to a family member's name and NOT name the kid after that person. After the lesson was over she asked if we decided on a name yet. I told her no but we still have plenty of time! She told me it would be a wonderful bday gift if we named our LO after her. I didn't want to flat out say NO so I told her we would consider it and she went home. </p> <p>I didn't take it seriously but she talked to DH this morning and told him she is soooooo happy that we are considering her name...haha. MIL's name is beautiful but we want our LO to have her own name! </p>
