Alot of the treatment that has been released is just apalling. I'm really shocked that the contractors, our service men and women including medical professionals carried out these tactics. Rectal feedings, chained in stress position for hours and days, sleep deprivation for days and hours, sexual molestation, and keeping the prisoners naked in cold spaces either in all light or all darkness 24 hours a day. I'm not surprised prisoners were beaten and some of the humiliation like dumping food over their head. I think there is a line when it comes to poor treatment and inhumane treatment. We crossed the line.

One of the interviews I saw was with a military interrogator stating the best info he received was from well rested detainees because they can recall details. He advocated not prosecuting anyone because the worse thing that could happen is that no one is found guilty and any administration can lawfully employ these tactics again.

I'm torn as to whether the report should have been released. There's a saying "no one wants to know how the sausage is made." I would like to know that we are smarter and better than what is in that report. The report concludes that Intel ga t here's from these detainees was not beneficial leads me to say all that was for nothing. Releasing the report doesn't make us any safer, but it does make us accountable.

@MrsSCB: I loved what Sen McCain said and what he has always said when it comes to these tactics. He is the most credible politician IMO on these matters because he is a survivor of torture. The man cannot even lift his hands above his head because of what happened to him as a POW!

This is exactly how the US looses credibility with the rest of the world!

I definitely think it amounts to torture. The things I've read about make me shudder. No one has a right to do those things to another human being, no matter what that person has done. Though like @mrs. bird, I don't believe in the death penalty. I'm VERY strongly against any kind of eye for an eye mentality, so trying to justify torture by outlining what the prisoners we tortured did makes no sense to me. Compassion and ethical treatment should set us apart from countries that regularly employ inhumane tactics against prisoners. Let's not lower ourselves to the same level. If anyone's interested in an overview, I found this to be really helpful: http://www.vox.com/2014/12/9/7361209/senate-torture-report-cia

I also absolutely don't think this made us safer at all. That seems to be the conclusion from the report (that it didn't help), and while the CIA is insisting the torture did produce some helpful results, I have yet to see anything convincing in that regard. We don't normally see eye to eye on everything, but I really appreciate what John McCain said about the report -- particularly coming from his perspective as a former POW: http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/09/politics/mccain-lauds-release-terror-report/index.html

I was haven't been following as closely as I should, but did see a segment on the CBS morning show about it yesterday. Some of the things mentioned I found extremely disturbing- like forced enemas, wouldn't that be sexual assault?? I realize when you're trying to protect an entire nation, the rights of one individual seem inconsequential, but terrorizing and torturing people when you believe you have a right because it's for the greater good seems like what we're trying to prevent others from doing, so how is it justified when the US does it for what we believe is a greater good, but others who do it are terrorists & criminals? I think there needs to be a more strict guide that dictates what is and what is not acceptable. No one should be above the law (I'm also anti death penalty, so that I'm sure influences my views on this)

I've read articles on it and watched interviews of several key players then and now. Even with all the information that is known I am undecided if people should be prosecuted which is what the UN is calling for.

Do you think the records of how the prisoners were treated amounts to torture?

Do you think government officials, military personnel, and private citizens involved in this should be prosecuted?

Do you think the US should treat prisoners like this in the future? Should we have new guidelines?

Do you think the report should have been released to the public?

Do you think the treatment the prisoners received made us safer? Prevented further attacks?
