I had Norovirus and was barfing my brains out at 27w. Then got a horrible chest cold the week after. It was bad. All I could take was cough syrup and Tylenol.

My midwife gave me a zpak today. Finally something! (Although I did get some sleep last night. First night in 10 days without coughing for hours. But I'm still feeling cruddy today).

Then I got terrible diarrhea three hours later. Called my MW. Sounds like it's a normal side effect and "hopefully I still absorbed some of the drug."

Great. I'm never going to get better!!

@jedeve: yikes! You need a new PCP! Not sure if a midwife is different but my OB wouldn't be able to do anything about my pneumonia. It's not what they're trained in.

I had 2 stomach bugs, at 8 and 24 weeks...I never get sick but both left me exhausted and confined to the sofa for days. I was so worried about the baby, especially the 2nd time but she was fine.

I was so sick with asthma and cough during my pregnancy. It was very distressing. I felt so helpless! The worst was gastro though. I ended up in the ER getting liters of fluid. Baby really made it hard for me to fight infection.

Yep, unfortunately. I caught bronchitis around 23 weeks and had a horrible chest cold from then through about 27 weeks. I also got diagnosed with strep throat on the day I delivered...not so fun.

I also got injured while I was pregnant-I partially dislocated both of my hips due to falls on the ice, so I had to deal with that, too.

Being sick and pregnant sucks, I'm sorry. But don't feel bad if you have to take medicine to feel better. Baby can't be healthy unless Mama is!

I had pretty bad bronchitis too, lasted about 3 weeks. My doctor prescribed antibiotics which helped clear it up. I also had some kind of weird cold/allergy thing early this spring. Benadryl helped some. It is nice to know that it is not totally out of the ordinary.

One of my very best friends is currently pregnant. Early into her pregnancy, she got food poisoning. She was throwing up so bad for days that she was actually hemorrhaging a ridiculous amount of blood. She was at the ER multiple times to check the baby. She thought she was losing the baby. But the baby was just fine.

Fast forward a few months later and the same pregnant friend has just very recently been diagnosed with melanoma cancer.

I don't know why, but this thread makes me feel SO MUCH BETTER. I have really bad seasonal allergies and they inflame my asthma. Since I can't take anything strong for them, my allergies have been so bad this year. Which means my lungs are just completely clogged. I've had a terrible cough for the last week or so, and have had a lot of the issues you ladies have mentioned. I haven't coughed up blood or anything (that sounds super scary!!), but I have had such bad coughing spasms that I've vomited (morning sickness is probably partially to blame for that, but it was definitely caused by the coughing).

It's getting a little better, but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

I had an awful cold about a month and a half ago and I was crazy miserable. I couldn't breathe so I couldn't sleep, so I couldn't get better faster. Misery. I am getting over another cold, though not as bad this time. The joys of working in a hospital.

Fighting a terrible sinus infection right now. Finally broke down and am trying to kick it with some antibiotics. Have a 14 month old at home and a husband that works a ton too so I am miserable. The coughing at night is driving me (and my husband) crazy. Last night finally went with the old wives tale of vicks on my feet and I think it may have actually helped a little bit. I feel bad for the little one in my belly b/c I feel like I'm shaking him up so much when I cough. Have been sleeping with a humidifier also, which may or may not help. I've found that anything cold increases my cough and that warm stuff and honey helps a little bit.
Hope you feel better soon and you get some relief!!!

@locavore_mama: it was my pcp office that told me it was a blood clot last week. Not too helpful. I hope the midwife can do something, because my pcp office sucks. I went to them about an ankle injury I had had years prior when I was pregnant with my first and they told me it was a blood clot.

@BlueWolverine: I feel you on the peeing. I have to wear pantiliners and am changing my underwear every time I get up in the middle of the night.

Is bronchitis more common in pregnancy? It hurts soooo bad to cough. I really pulled a muscle on one side from coughing. It's like trying to lift an eight pound weight with your stomach and do a crunch and cough at the same time.

@jedeve: I had pneumonia for most of my first trimester. I was really worried too about how it would affect the baby. I would see your PCP not your midwife at this point.

In the end even though I'm a no meds person I had to take pregnancy safe meds to nip it in the button.

I had HORRIBLE bronchitis in the middle of the 2nd tri. I was on antibiotics and they gave me codeine cough syrup that was safe, but made me feel too freaky. I was crying from the coughing. I purposefully breathed shallowly to try to not cough. I was coughing so hard that I was constantly peeing. I had to wear pantyliners so I wouldn't pee all over the couch. It was one of the most miserable things I've ever been through.

Has anyone had a non-pregnancy related illness (like not morning sickness) that they got really sick with during their pregnancy?

I think I must have bronchitis or something. I've had a cough from hell for the last week and I took a turn for the worse today. I was coughing up blood yesterday, but not today. I'm worried about the baby and that I'll somehow go into early labor because of this. That's crazy, right?

I did see a doctor a week ago, who wasn't helpful (she tested me for a blood clot. For a cough). I have a midwife appointment tomorrow.
