When my LO was really little we weighed her in a kitchen scale! We used a basket to put her in. It only went up to ten lbs though.

We got the same one as jellyfish. It's been a lifesaver to make sure he's on track after some weight gain issues. Peace of mind and fewer doctor trips.

Okay this is going to make me sound super cheap but we just use our own digital scales. Hubby jumps on and weighs himself and then does the same while holding our son and we just work out the difference.

@matador84: If you get a scale similar to the Medela you can do a weighed feeding at home. It doesn't have to be fancy, just sensitive.

@matador84: We got one, because then it was partly covered by our insurance. I would contact your insurance company and ask if they have any coverage provisions; it was really easy to get the rx once we knew it would be smart. We just talked to the pediatrician at a weight visit.

Best baby purchase I made. I was so happy to have it. We bought a fairly cheap one-- Babies R Us's own brand http://www.toysrus.com/buy/health-safety/babies-r-us-digital-baby-scale-1974024-20222396

ETA- my lactation consultant also recommended it and it was always exactly the same weight as hers.

@lemondrop: I used to rent a hospital grade pump but they don't to that anymore due to their profit under the ACA...but I might call and see if they rent baby scales! They actually have a pump room their and i could do weighted feeds, but I go back to work monday and don't have time to go up there to do that unfortunately.

@matador84: we very briefly rented one along with a hospital grade breast pump. We rented through a local medical supply company, I can't even remember what type of scale we had, other than you could weigh before and after a feeding and it would tell you how much milk the baby had taken in.

@matador84: we did just that - bought and then returned. I think you could probably rent one from your pediatrician, just call and ask. I had never heard of it until my LC suggested it.

@Pepper: I bought the BRU but am now thinking about returning it!

Renting is a great idea! I had no idea you could do that. Did you need an rx from the pediatrician? @mediagirl: @Mrs. Twine:

We have one. We first purchased a babies r us scale that broke like 2 months later. Then we purchased this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0009MFUZE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1398450723&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40

And it's still going strong! It was worth it for us, because he had weight gain issues in the beginning. I liked monitoring his progress, it gave me peace of mind.

I got one off amazon, then once we got it, realized it totally wasn't worth it. It wasn't sensitive enough as I wanted to see how much she was transferring when she ate. I returned it.

We have this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009MFUZE/ref=oh_details_o04_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It was so helpful early on when I was worried about supply and weight gain.

We rented a Medela Baby Weigh for three months. It was wonderful. We could track at home how she was gaining (she was very low on the chart-- at one point below the 1st percentile) without having the stress of taking her in to the doctor each time. It was more affordable to rent than to buy-- I want to say it was $10 a month from home health.

My grandmother gifted me one when LO was first born, when she was having trouble gaining weight in the first couple weeks. At first I thought it was kind of wasteful, but we used it for quite a few months to check on her weight. Definitely not a necessity, but I liked having one.

We used this one:
http://www.target.com/p/american-red-cross-soothing-baby-scale/-/A-11157373#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=baby+scale

@MrsKoala: I was horribly worried with DS about weight gain because I had such a hard time bfing. Dd takes the breast great but now with her refusing a bottle, she is hardly eating during the day and sttn. Scary. I have a bru gift card and they have one but wondering how great it is.
