We stuck with free stuff at first (library, nearby libraries, a psychology school nearby with a playgroup that their students can observe, BF support group at the hospital where I delivered, a "family network" with free playgroups). Once M was starting to crawl we started a paid class at a nearby child development center. It's been great for both of us! I found that once I found one of these groups I met other moms who knew about other free things. They are a little hard to find online, etc.

We started Gymboree at 5 months because he wasn't crawling yet and we thought seeing other kids crawl would help him crawl. We feel he really likes it but we have no idea since he can't tell us yet but he's usually very happy to go there. :) He's 18 months now and we still go. We have not made any friends at Gymboree because in our area it seems everyone seems to keep to themselves and just watch their kid. It's fun to see LO interact with all the kids.

We started classes when he was 3 months old. We did music (music together) and a mommy & me type class. He loved them, and I enjoyed them as well.

We started Gymboree at 7 months. We did the music one and so mobility wasn't necessary. She loved it!

We started Gymboree shortly after LO turned 2 months and it was awesome! It was great for BOTH of us to get out and socialize. We've made some great friends from Gymboree. Highly, highly recommend it!

We did Gymboree from 2 months - 1 year old and quit because it was boring. We started swim lessons at 5 months, and we love that. We recently started Little Gym at 15 months and it seems to be a hit.

Personally, I don't think those classes are worth it for a 4 month old. I would stick with free stuff like the library's story time until your LO is at least 6 months. If I could do it all over again, I would have started LO at 8 or 9 months.

I started taking DD once she could walk. Maybe once they start crawling well I think it'd be worth it but not really before.

I took my LO (who turns 4 months tomorrow  ) to the library story time today and she LOVED it. I sing & play with her at home all day long but I guess she likes socializing, which is something we don't do frequently cause we know babies who are way older or toddlers. I'm considering doing a Little Gym/Gymboree type of class. Has anyone done one with a younger baby? Was it worth it? Any thoughts?
