My mom gave me an old ugly ottoman she had in storage, and I recovered it in a fun fabric. It was super easy, and I think it turned out really cute. Thrift stores and yard sales always have ugly ottomans for sale. He drilled the holes for tufting too. I used three inch foam all around and batting over that. I tufted with self covered buttons and waxed thread (get a REALLY long needle) and stapled after to get a deep tuft. I used a staple gun to attach the fabric and batting.
