I feel like we are in a constant cycle of sleep training our 3-almost-4 year old. He's always been a crappy sleeper, but we worked really hard and got him sleeping through the night in his own bed. A month later, baby sister was born and it was all out the window. Our daughter is almost 5 months and he's still waking up at least once and begging my husband to sleep with him in his bed. My husband usually gives in. :bummed: I swear he's going to keep this up until puberty!

I wouldn't say we are sleep training, but my 3.5 yo sleep was out of control. She's always been a night owl, so we've been lax about bedtimes. But in the last month her sleep has been bad, and she was literally falling asleep in her dinner. So we moved her bedtime up by 2 hours  and established a much more succinct routine: Potty, milk, 2 books, 3 songs- she falls asleep by the second song. I'm hoping we can keep this up throughout the summer, even through a few trips.

Kind of? For the last year my son (now 4) will go through spurts of not wanting to go to bed. Sometimes it lasts a few nights, sometimes it lasts weeks. We are going through one now and I'm exhausted. We were taking things away every time he got out of bed but it doesn't seem to be working anymore. I found a bedtime routine chart that I am going to implement, hopefully it works. He loves getting new Lego sets so that should be a good incentive.

Oh god, that sounds awful. My almost 3 year old has always been a terrible sleeper, but last night took the biscuit - my 6 week old slept 6.5hrs straight and my 3yr old was up twice during that time! I swear the baby will STTN before E does and, when that happens, we will HAVE to sleep train. Good luck. :goodluck:

@mediagirl: no but i am so sorry you are at this point. I sleep trained my DD so I have nothing against it by I can't imagine how hard it is at her age when she is so verbal.

Have you read Happy Sleep Habits Happy Child? It has some resources for dealing with sleep issues in toddlers and preschoolers. I really like his approach to sleep issues.

No, but tons of hugs for you. And lots of wine. And noise canceling headphones.

Because we are. Sigh. Our 3 year old used to be SUCH A GREAT SLEEPER then she decided she didn't need a nap anymore and didn't need to fall asleep at night anymore. We are currently ankle deep in sleep training. Let me tell you what, I couldn't do CIO when she was a baby and now? Even harder: "Mommy, I want a huggy!!" Mommy, I want to kiss you! Mommy, I LOVE you, don't shut me out! Mommy? Mommy? I need you." Sigh.

Has anyone else had to do this?
