@mediagirl: My DD who is almost 3 is in preschool at a Kindercare. Once she's old enough she'll be going to their kindergarten because she misses the cutoff for our public K. So she'll do 1 year of K at Kindercare, and then another at public school the year after.

At our center I have heard great things about the program, and the biggest plus is that class size is really small (since not many kids stay for private if they can be going to public school for free!) Right now for example, the K class only has 10 kids. We've been at the center for 1.5 years and I've been super impressed with the curriculum they teach and the things my daughter comes home talking about!

That being said, if we had the option to put in her in public and pay $$$ less, I definitely would do that! I get what you mean about so many transitions, but everyone entering kindergarten is going through a transition as opposed to in 1st grade she'd be one of the few getting used to it.

@PurplePeony: yeah, that's a good point I hadn't thought about! I figure most of the kids from the Kindergarten program would be going on to 1st the same way, though. So, she could potentially have someone from that group going to 1st with her. But, good thing to think about - thanks!

I don't know anything about it, but have you considered that if she doesn't start kindergarten at the school she'll be attending for the rest of elementary school, she would then be going into first grade as the "new kid"? All the kids who started kindergarten together would already know each other, so she wouldn't be part of that initial time when everyone is meeting each other for the first time, forming friendships, etc. Personally, I'd deal with an extra transition earlier on instead of that, but maybe that's because I had kind of a rough experience switching schools when I was a kid.

We are looking to move to another area in our county at some point. When we move, we will probably have to yank our daughter out of her daycare...again. I was looking at some of the Kindercare centers in the town we are moving near and noticed there are 2 that offer a private kindergarten. While I don't like the idea of paying for kindergarten, I am curious about it because if we pull her when she turns 4, it will just be one more year until she moves on to another school. I'd prefer more stability for her than that and would consider a private kindergarten to keep her in the same place for 2 years and to give her the option of a more play based kindergarten.

So, does anyone have experience with Kindercare's Kindergarten program? Can you tell me anything about it?
