I did Zumba twice a week and cut out all white food (sugar, pasta, potatoes, bread, etc) and lost 15lbs over about 2 months.

my friend had a bet as to whether she could be vegetarian for a year. her new diet, combined with lots of walking, led to a weight loss of about 10-15 pounds. (note: her veggie diet was healthy, not with a lot of cheese and fat which sometimes happens to make up for the absence of meat)

Yep, I did. I ate nothing but salad (literally), cut out all cards and drank nothing but water. After a while my body got used to eating this way and I actually enjoyed it!! I also worked out every single day, sometimes twice. I know it is a crazy lifestyle but it worked for me because I was living on campus at a college. I went from a size 4 to a size 0....not exactly a weight I could maintain once I graduated. It was nice while it lasted.

I don't know if this is "just diet and exercise" but I lost about 25 pounds last year and I used Nutri Systems to kick start the weight loss. Yes you have to pay a fair amount of money upfront but the per meal cost is honestly probably less than what you would pay for fresh healthy food at the grocery store so to me it was worth the cost. The food was pretty good, and it was just really nice to not have to think about it or count points or calories. Everything was done for me, which is probably even nicer when you have a baby to look after!

Definitely. Lost about 25 lbs one summer in college, by limiting my portions and doing about an hour a day of cardio and some light weights. I will admit I was a little obsessive about it, but just because I finally reached my breaking point after spending my whole adolesence overweight.

More recently I was able to lose 10-15 lb and maintain my happy weight by focusing mostly on the kinds of food I ate. I exercised regularly, but more like 30 min cardio 4-5 days/wk. The big thing for me was cutting out dairy in all but tiny amounts. Doesn't work for everyone, but I have a mild allergy, so I think it reduced inflammation, etc. Also cutting back on processed foods, and eating a lot of produce is a biggie that others have mentioned. By doing that, I could still go out to eat, have celebratory desserts, etc, but because the bulk of my eating was clean, the splurges didn't set me back.

FWIW, I've never been long term successful with calorie counting type programs.

Good luck!

Yes, I've done it before a couple times. Weight Watchers definitely works and I've also done "clean eating" where I focus on lean proteins, fruits, veggies and complex carbs like brown rice, quinoa, sweet potatoes, etc. For exercise, I found that I need 3-4 days of hardcore workouts like bootcamp, spin, etc to help get my scale moving. Any activity is good though and will help you reduce inches.

I exercised a ton pre-baby (not so much now) and really focused on building muscle rather than solely doing cardio to 'burn fat.'

I also found that cutting out grains and limiting sugars did wonders.

I second @LivsMama re tracking your food . . . *ABC* (all bites count) is HUGE to making your goal.

Clean, unprocessed foods with limited processed carbs combined with interval training (combined resistance and cardio training) helped me drop 10+ pounds (and maintain the loss) until I put some weight on while TTC (it was a conscious decision to improve my chances). You can *so* do this!

In December I was 9 months postpartum and still carrying around an extra 17 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight. I decided I needed a change. I used the myfitnesspal app on my smartphone. I set it to lose 2 pounds a week and based on my stats, they recommended 1250 calories a day. I started tracking everything I ate. I didn't change my diet too much right away, but found myself naturally looking for lower calorie options to try and meet my goal. No matter what I ate, I logged it, even bad days when I had a king size candy bar and fast food for 2 meals that day.

I started eating more salads being mindful of calories in the dressing and toppings, but still adding enough to make it taste good. I stocked on fresh produce, especially fresh, crunchy veggies. Carrots, green beans, snap peas, and broccoli. I kept yogurt, fruit and veggies in my office fridge and at home. I didn't drink any calories except 1% milk on occasion. No juice or other drinks. Mainly I stuck to water and some diet coke (my one really bad habit).

As I made these changes I started sticking to my daily calorie goal and started losing weight. I added in some stationary biking (we have one at home), running and workout DVDs.

If I ate a high calorie meal, I tried to make up for it, but I didn't beat myself up over it or give up for the day and continue to eat badly. I planned in splurges (dinners out, treats) and enjoyed them. I also ate any calories I burned working out. It's important to eat at least 1200-1300 calories a day, or your body will try to conserve it's resources and weight loss will be slower.

From December 27 to March 29 I lost 30 pounds.

I stopped focusing on weight loss so that I could train for a half marathon, but have maintained the weight loss by sticking to about 1500 calories a day and continuing to run.

I'm back at it and down another 3 pounds in the last week to try and lose the next 15-20 pounds.

way before I was pregnant, I lost 24 pounds with diet and exercise.
I got a personal trainer, once a week for 13 sessions. That only helped with the first 5 pounds, but also 5% body fat! :)

I use myfooddiary dot com. They do charge a $9 a month fee but i find that they have the most accurate and complete database of foods. The info is broken down in a motivating way (if every day were like today you would meet your goal on..., smiley faces for getting your recommended daily calcium, frownie faces if you consume too much sodium) They have charts and graphs galore and you can track your weight, cholesteral, measurements, and body fat. Their forums are fun, supportive and full of helpful tips and there's always challenges going on.

I promise i dont work for them i used them on and off since i was in college and always seem to go back when i get motivated to drop a few pounds. My most successful was before I went on my maintence meds and I dropped 35lbs. I've since gained that and more but i'm back on MFD and working on getting those numbers down

About 8 years ago I did. I sort of did the opposite of what put my weight on.
I cut out all sweets (which was tough because I worked at Starbucks....and speaking of SB, I went to just plain tea with milk or americanos or black coffee....was also tough because DH (boyfriend at the time) ate dessert every night). And at dinner time I plated myself a smaller portion than normal. And I tried to make sure I got protein at every meal (and again, no added sugar!)
For exercise, I started running 'most days'. I would walk for 5 minutes, run 10 minutes, then turn around and run home. Or if I had time i would go for a walk as long as I could....hours sometimes.
This was a lifestyle change that I stuck with for years to lose and then keep off the weight. Now my body is regulated and I can have some sweets sometimes, but I still try to watch it. And I go for a brisk 30 minute walk every day instead of running.

Yes, but it was not after having a baby. My weight has fluctuated from a high of nearly 140 to about 115. Normally I can maintain in the low 120's comfortably, but if I'm slacking it will sneak back up. I spent many years in the mid-130's and it was an effort to get to where I was before I got pregnant. Even at 28 weeks, I'm not at my highest ever weight.
I find when I want to lose weight that watching what I eat makes a bigger difference than heavy exercise - to a certain extent. I try to eat healthy foods most of the time and if I'm going to indulge, I just have a small amount or do it just once in a while (ie either have a tiny piece of cake every day until it's gone or have a big piece and bring the rest of it to work so I'm not tempted to eat it all). Limiting snacking and not eating late at night make the biggest difference. Also, I find that being active in general - walking a lot, taking the stairs, not just sitting on the couch after work - makes a much bigger difference than going to the gym for an hour. Using a pedometer to make sure you walk 10,000 steps is a great way to ensure you are being active.
Good luck!

I was able to do it in the past, but I always fall off the bandwagon, haha.

I've lost 15+ pounds by following Weight Watchers and working out (doing Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30) and I've also lost 15+ by just counting calories (www.caloriecount.com) and working out (doing work-out DVDs). My problem is after 4-5 months, I fall off the band wagon and stop doing both and then I gain it all back. But I've lost 15+ twice with diet and exercise, so it's definitely doable!

I used Calorie Count. As others have mentioned, it is amazing when you actually write EVERYTHING down, no cheating, to see how we have no idea what we're really eating. Learn correct portions. And I found that when I cut back my calories but still chose processed type foods, I was still hungry because I could only eat so little. Adding fruits and veggies and protein made me feel full while staying comfortably within my calorie goal. I lost 10lbs without any exercise at all, just by switching my diet. And I felt better all around -- less tired, no stomach issues, etc.

for me, diet is way more important than exercise. i used to work out really hard, and with a trainer, but i didn't lose a single pound until i completely changed my diet. lots of chicken, fish, and veggies!

My secret was Weight Watchers online. I lost 25 lbs. and plan to start again in a couple of weeks. Tracking everything I put in my mouth was key, so I had the app on my phone, too. I liked having a certain amount of points and veggies and fruit were 0 points so I tried to stuff my face with them.

I didn't want to give up carbs or the foods that I really like because I had done that in the past (South Beach, etc.) and while it worked for me, usually when it was over the weight started to creep back. So with WW, I was able to still allow myself to eat the things that I love, just in major moderation.

I'm sure it'll be different for me post-partum (hormones, recovery, etc) but after my wedding last July I dropped 20 lbs. I had gained it all over the course of a year stress eating in prep for the wedding.

I only drank skim milk (always have drank skim anyway), water, and once in awhile orange juice. Only whole wheat grains (pasta, bread, even pancakes), and ate when I was hungry instead of 3 main meals. I had cereal and milk for breakfast (typically cheerios), and carried snack foods with me throughout the day. My problem before was falling back on frozen pizza for dinner or fast food if I got the least bit hungry during the day.

That last part was a serious work in restraint on my part - I *wanted* certain things so bad, but did my best to avoid them. That said, I didn't totally deny myself, because that led to binging - if I was craving, say, frozen pizza..I got one, but only had 3 pieces instead of the entire thing. I paired it with something else.

In my case, it was much more mental than it was a specific diet - I had to train myself to want healthier options!

yep. I was a boxer pre-baby, so Id have to make weight a lot for fights, and that was all done by diet and exercise. Here are some tips:

*keep track of EVERY SINGLE THING you eat on a food journal. I use The Daily Plate (www.thedailyplate.com) as they have confirmed calorie counts on a ton of foods, including restauants. You would be shocked at how much all of the little snacking here and there adds up. When I started tracking, I found that I was snacking on 500 calories or more a day just out of bordeom. You need to cut calories. Losing weight is primarily diet and partially exercie...keep that in mind

*Try to keep fat down to 30% of your diet at a maximum. The Daily Plate will show you a breakdown of everything you eat. You will need some carbs in order to healthily lose weight and not go into mascular degenration (where the body burns muscle before fat) but try to keep carbs to like 15% of your daily intake. The rest should be proteins

*also track your exercise. You can also do this on the daily plate. Exercise is a must, even if you can only squeeze in a few mins a day. If you can do the 30 day shred, do that, or even P90X or insanity or something if you dont want to go to the gym.

It IS possible. Im in the midst of it now, but Im on a medically supervised diet because Im having all sorts of health issues. So if you want a partner, feel free to reach out on my wall and Ill get you my email address =o)

I'm in the same boat. Last week I went to the store to try on a shirt, and it was the first time I saw myself in a full length mirror in so long. I freaked out. My body up top and on the bottom look normal, but my stomach and waist do not resemble my former body.

I don't have any great advice because I just assumed that the extra weight I was carrying would melt away after I stopped pumping (it didn't). I'm trying to eat better, but I'm finally able to enjoy foods with no restrictions... so it's really difficult. Exercise... do I even have time for that? I tried to make time for it last week but then gave up. Oye.

I do the same as Bree72. I cut out all carbs and sugar, super strict for the first two weeks, then I add back in steel cut oatmeal, whole wheat pasta and some fruits.

I write everything down, tracking how much water I ate and how much I exercised. I have to add gym time, there's no way I can do it without that.

I know breastfeeding has helped a ton, but yes I was able to do it with watching my diet and exercise. I went in to the hospital about 248 and came home (about 2 weeks PP) about 220. I am down now to about 192 and my goal is 182. I am really having to kick the diet in high gear right now to loose this last 10 lbs.

Yep, tracking my daily intake of food, limiting carbs, and working out 5x a week. It takes time, but it works! And I was in the best shape of my life!

Set a daily calorie goal, and then track everything you eat. Download a free app like Fitness Pal to make life easier. Being accountable for all my calories is the only thing that ever works for me.
