I was admitted for the induction at 3pm but we didn't even get started until overnight so LO ended up being born the next day. Maybe you can start later?

I was induced at 42 weeks with my second. The induction started at noon with pitocin and I was holding my daughter at 3:50 - less than 4 hours later. (My first, non-induced labor was 35 hours long for reference.)

@Cole: and to play devil's advocate to the long induction - I was induced at 39 weeks with zero progress and had baby less than 24 hours later!

@Cole: took 2 days for me as well! Induced on the 4th, gave birth on the 6th. If your cervix is closed/hard/not wanting to cooperate then it could take while.

I've had two really long inductions. With DD went in on the night of the 9th and she was born wee hours of tge 11th. With DS, scheduled for early the 15th which was perfect to share birthday with both great grandfathers, but hospital was delayed and then it took a bit to get going so he was born on the 16th

I delivered at two different hospitals and neither's wanted to start talking about inductions until baby was a week late and at that point their only guideline was that they be delivered before I was two weeks late.

@rachiecakes: I am aiming for the 27th but they want to start the induction the 25th.

@MrsMccarthy: Thank you!

@Cole: wishing you a beautiful birth darling! Don't feel bad about wanting what you want and don't feel bad about an induction. You've cooked that baby well and you'll get her here safely one way or another.

@Cole: what's the date that you're aiming for?

if it's the 27th, I'd try for the 26th.
if it's the 26th, I'd stick with late on the 25th.

@rachiecakes: That might be my best bet, I thought they would start late on the 26th but it turns out they want to start late on the 25th. Maybe I can get them to start early on the 26th?

@MrsMccarthy: Thanks! I really hope it doesn't come to an induction either way but I was so bummed that I could end up with one and still not get the date I had been really hoping for. Don't get me wrong I know my control over the situation is minimal but I just wanted that tiny amount of odds on my side!

@Cole: Ask to have the induction later on in the day? I was induced at 6pm Dec.16th and had J on Dec.17th 8pm.

I don't think you will end up needing to but it's your birth and one day doesn't seem crucial. Just keep in mind that inductions can take up to a few days sometimes so baby still may not be born on sad date. I hope you go into labor on youe own soon!

This is 100% silly and I acknowledge that but humor me just so I know what my options are. I have known all along that I would go late just because of family history and sure enough I am already 4 days past my due date and they will let me go two weeks. The disappointing thing is that unless I have the world's longest induction the baby would be born the day before my late father's birthday. I have had it in my mind all along that the silver lining to needing an induction was at least they would share that day but I found out Monday that my induction date would be one day earlier than I thought.

So if things still look favorable do you think I can get away with begging to push it back by one day? NSTs and ultrasounds would be involved which is totally fine. I know it's sort of silly but I really really don't want to be induced and that was the only thing making it OK in my mind. (For the record- my mom was close to four weeks late with me and then was induced at two weeks past her due date with her 4th, all 4 of us were late.)
