@yellowbird: There is no rush on the biopsy, but they also can't do local anesthetics because it's such a small area that they have to do the biopsy and needs an accurate sample. He won't be able to sit still even though it's a rather quick procedure otherwise.

@LovelyPlum: We are still nursing which is why I want to do it sooner rather than later, but makes me sad that he's not even a year old yet! :( thanks

My daughter had to be under full sedation to get her tonsils out. I don't know.. Any type of sedation is scary, but the smaller the child the more nerve wracking it is for me.

Do you think they would be able to numb it with lidocaine and biopsy it? Could it wait at all?

@mrsjyw: how long would he be under? For thbes, LO didn't even have to have an IV. It was a 10-15 minute procedure, max. I was very nervous, too, but she was great going back in the OR. There wasn't even really any pain upon coming out of anesthesia; it just disoriented her something fierce.

Are you nursing him? If so, I'd do it now, while you can still nurse him for comfort after. They let me back in recovery almost immediately, so I was there when she woke up. Nursing helped her to feel better more quickly, even though she was too upset to do it at first. But I think that helped her settle and get back to feeling normal.

Also, don't forget that the anesthesiologist is a super expert on helping kids come in and out of sedation. After my recent surgery, I have come to realize how amazing those doctors really are. They are careful and watch them like hawks. He will be safe!

Hugs, Mama

@Raindrop: @jh524: @LovelyPlum: thank you all for your feedback and support!

I have put off scheduling the procedure because I'm just so nervous about DS being so young... I know it's pretty routine with minimal risks, but still bothers me being that he's only 8.5 months right now... :(

Yes, for tubes. She was 14 months and woke up SCREAMING, but after a while, she was fine. I nursed her and held her and rocked her while she woke up. After about half an hour, she was herself again. It sucked at the time, but it didn't last long.

Good luck! :goodluck:

Mine was under HEAVY sedation for cavities but I did write a thread about it http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/freaking-out-about-anesthesia . There were quite a few bees there that talked about their light sedation stories. Hopefully that can help you! :) Hopefully some of them will response here.

Another thread is this http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/infanttoddler-anesthesia

Good luck! I know it's a pretty scary experience. *big hugs*

DS2 has to have a biopsy for a few bumps on his back. Thankfully it's not cancerous and not serious; but needs the biopsy done for a 100% accurate diagnosis of what the pedi surgeon is pretty sure it is. (A chicken and egg type deal, he says).

Because he is still an infant they want to put him under light sedation (through a mask) to do the procedure. Has anyone's LO been put under this process? How old were they and how did they react? Any tips?
