He is diagnosed with Alopecia Areata. We just shaved his head yesterday because it was starting to look really bad. Shaving it actually makes it looks worse (more patchy) and I can see just how bad it really is. He has some hair left on the top of his head but I can also see some small bald patches forming there as well. I'm so devastated at the thought that this could be permanent. I'm trying to keep things in perspective ... like it's only hair, it could be something worse, etc... but at the same time , it is heartbreaking to see. Doctor gave me topical cream to put on him (steroid cream), but now that it is almost his whole head I am hesitant to use the cream. I'm so relieved. His hair is also not falling out anymore but just needs to grow back ! He thinks it has to do with stress on the body from the back to back infections he's had over the last few months (ear infections, stomach flu, HFM, pink eye ....). I know it is normal for babies' hair to fall out around 3-6 months, but he is 14 months... He eats well, in good health. He does pull his hair when he gets mad, and he gets mad a lot b/c he has a little temper, but would that cause all his hair to be falling out in clumps ? I see hair all over his blanket, and in the bathtub after I've given him a bath. He was born with a lot of hair and now it's about half of what it was... I'm afraid he's going to go bald. I have a Dr appt for him tomorrow but am wondering if anyone else had a similar problem ... </p>
