I am following up on this thread in hopes that someone out there or someone you know might have a similar situation and has some advice ?

Since my last post, my son who is now 20 months old experienced some new hair grown around August this year....then sometime mid-Oct I noticed it was falling out again in huge patches. He is diagnosed with Alopecia Areata. We just shaved his head yesterday because it was starting to look really bad. Shaving it actually makes it looks worse (more patchy) and I can see just how bad it really is. He has some hair left on the top of his head but I can also see some small bald patches forming there as well. I'm so devastated at the thought that this could be permanent. I'm trying to keep things in perspective ... like it's only hair, it could be something worse, etc... but at the same time , it is heartbreaking to see. Doctor gave me topical cream to put on him (steroid cream), but now that it is almost his whole head I am hesitant to use the cream. I am considering using natural alternative treatments but am just overwhelmed by this whole thing. =(

@podomama: yay! glad to hear that he's ok!!

Wagon Jr. had tons and tons of hair that stood straight up. Then about half of it fell out (he was still young though) but now he's got a full head of hair again.

Follow up again in case anyone interested .... blood test came back negative for everything and cbc was normal. I'm so relieved. His hair is also not falling out anymore but just needs to grow back ! He had such beautiful hair when he was born ....and over half is gone... but I'm just thankful that he's healthy and happy :)

Its always reassuring when you're worried about something and the doctor tells you they arent too worried about it, at least it lets you know they have seen it before and are pretty certain it will resolve itself

well, in case anyone is interested, I took my LO to a dermatologist this week and he said he isn't concerned about the hair loss, he thinks it will grow back in time. He thinks it has to do with stress on the body from the back to back infections he's had over the last few months (ear infections, stomach flu, HFM, pink eye ....). Going to take him for blood tests next week to rule out other conditions but hopefully they come out clear ....crossing my fingers.

Omg my Lo used to pull her hair when she was mad too! I got her to stop though.
Haven't had hair loss issues, but hopefully your doctor has some answers for you!

My LO is 14 months old and for the past month or so I noticed that his hair is falling out A LOT. I know it is normal for babies' hair to fall out around 3-6 months, but he is 14 months... He eats well, in good health. He does pull his hair when he gets mad, and he gets mad a lot b/c he has a little temper, but would that cause all his hair to be falling out in clumps ? I see hair all over his blanket, and in the bathtub after I've given him a bath. He was born with a lot of hair and now it's about half of what it was... I'm afraid he's going to go bald. I have a Dr appt for him tomorrow but am wondering if anyone else had a similar problem ...
