thank you everyone for your replies - i feel better knowing that this has happened to other (healthy!) women. AF showed up today, with a VENGEANCE, so i'm hoping that everything will be back to normal for next month

This actually just happened to me last month. It turned out I had an ovarian cyst (which later ruptured). My doctor said ovarian cysts are very common in women during childbearing years. Basically your body prepares to ovulate, but for some reason or another, the egg doesn't get released. When the egg fails to release, it can stay as a little bubble or pocket on your ovary. Usually the bubble gets reabsorbed without any treatment, but sometimes they can rupture. Rupturing can feel anywhere from like nothing has happened to the worst pain in your life. You usually get a little spotting and then later, a full period. I just got my period a few days ago after waiting a week and am back to TTC.

Hopefully it is just stress and you will be back TTC in no time! :)

This happened to me a few months ago. I was convinced I was pregnant, but my period was just late from stress. Looking back on the day that I was supposed an had all the signs I was ovulating that month I was travelling alone and while I was in the airport I found out that my husband's grandfather died and a couple hours later found out one of his coworker's died. So I think the stress of all that caused me not to ovulate for another week and so my period was late.

Stress can definitely do this, because I have experienced this and know other people who have.

Yes, I find that stress really messes up my cycle and will prolong it. So hopefully everything is fine and AF will show up soon and you can be onto the next cycle!

Something like this recently happened to me. I was 2+ weeks late, all HPT came back negative. I didn't have any pregnancy symptoms. After talking to friends I decided to make an appointment to try out acupuncture. Hours after the acupuncture I got my period. And my following cycle was back to normal.
Since you said you're getting a little nervous try to find ways to relax yourself. Take a bath, go for a walk, meditate, read a book. Do whatever usually works for you to take your mind off things.

@PastaAndPotato: It's happened to me tons of times. It's usually because something stressful happened or you were ill around ovulation time. That pushes ovulation back which pushes back AF. One time, I was late by 42 days (and was firmly convinced that I was going to be one of those people that don't get a postive pregnancy test until 11 weeks). I went to the doctor and she did a bunch of bloodwork, hormone levels and a preg test and they all came back fine. She said that sometimes we just miss ovulation and it screws up our cycles. And AF came two days later. I bet everything is fine, but I think it's good that you are going to your doctor. It may put your mind at ease.

the condensed version of this month is:

AF is 10 days late, but all HPT have been negative, and so was the blood test i had done at the doctors

up until now, my cycle has been a pretty picture perfect 28-29 days, and the OPK i took this month showed ovulation at the "right" time (it matched every other month)

has anyone had this happen? i'm worried about what else might be going on if i'm not pregnant, and AF has gone missing - i have a dr's appointment scheduled for next week, but am a little nervous
