As a non-parent, I DREAD going to business lunches where I'm the only one without kids because it's guaranteed that the entire conversation will be about their kids. It's not that I don't care, but I cant' really relate and I'm always left out of those convos. So in a way I look forward to finally being able to participate.
Also, I LOVE the fact that my boss has two small kids and I work in a family friendly company. There are crickets chirping at 5:10pm every day so I never have to stay late just to look good. And I never get late night emails from my bosses since they're busy at home. I know that it's going to be very nice once I do have kids, I won't feel bad about having to rush out early to pick the LO up from day care, etc.

I'm a SAHM, but my husband is always coming home and talking about his coworker and her baby. She's a little older than our LO so she's able to give us advice, and he likes to know where she's at with milestones so we know what we have coming to us.

In my department we have all been working together from our single days through marriage and now kids. I feel like I can join in conversations more now that I'm pegnant as they are ahead of me in mommyhood with a 7 month old nd a 1 year old.

We have all gotten married within 2 years of each other and now kids, it's pretty crazy!

@mrbee:
Yes. :) It has taught me how to keep my mouth shut. :)
I work in a male dominated field. And the guys just LOVE to tell me how parenthood is going to be. How my kids are going to act.
I just nod and smile. I've been around plenty babies (raising a cousin and 3 nieces and 2 nephews that I'm very close to).
I know having our own child will be completely different. But they way they talk it's like their troubles will happen to ALL parents.

:)

I noticed that after I had kids, I had much more in common with my fellow parents... so there was more to talk about! Plus we all wanted to wrap up work by closing time... so we had that in common too.
