I think all of pregnancy has made me rethink! :) Morning sickness is just awful. I wouldn't wish terrible morning sickness on my worst enemy. Mine got significantly better around 10 weeks, though I still threw up 1-3/week in the morning only, mostly in connection with brushing my teeth. At 19 weeks, I only throw up now if I brush my teeth wrong.

I'm pretty sure this will be my last/only pregnancy since we're getting two at once, but I do want to adopt a girl later.

@artbee: I had my lights out yesterday :) They know I get the migraines - won't know about the pg for another week or two.

I haven't talked about meds - pre-pg I never took them because I got migraines so infrequently and they were kind of predictable, so felt manageable. Now, these past few have been so UN-predictable that I'm not sure. I know there are some meds that are pg safe, especially in the second and third tri. Probably worth a call to the nurse. Thanks for the suggestion.

@Revel: My boss used to let me keep my lights off in my office. It was great because 1. it was good for my head and 2. People would think I was out and wouldn't bother me :)

Have you talked to your doctor about meds? I hated taking meds when pregnant, but if you take something small when the migraine hits it can prevent you from having to take something stronger later.

@artbee: Thank you for the detailed reply. I'm so sorry to hear what a tough go of it you've had. I know on the spectrum of migraine sufferers I am a relatively mild case, but that is cold comfort in the midst of a bad one.

I'm hadn't had any until about 8 weeks in, so that was a nice long break. I'm hoping maybe it is just a hormone surge at the end of the first tri and then things will balance out a little bit. I too am bothered by office lights/bright lights once triggered, so I feel your pain there.

Hoping for some relief for both of us.

I was sick until I delivered! My first tri I remember saying any other kids would be adopted because I couldn't do it again. Now that LO is here, I definitely want her to have a sibling in the future. I miss feeling her move and kick :)

Oh I'm so sorry, I know exactly how you feel. I remember feeling so guilty because I wanted to be pregnant so badly, and then I almost didn't want to be anymore when I was so miserably sick for the first 18 weeks. Those were LONG weeks, but now that my darling girl is 7 months old, I want to do it all again sometime. Trust me, the memory will fade and you'll love that baby so much, it's all worth it. Plus, for many women, each pregnancy is different and there is a chance morning sickness wouldn't strike the second time, or at least not as severely. I hope you feel much better soon (and you will!).

Yes! I had 9 months of morning sickness, and as much as I have totally forgotten the pain of childbirth, the though of another 9 months of morning sickness just makes me want to die. We will definitely try for another baby in a few years, but I'm not even close to ready for another pregnancy yet.

I never had terrible symptoms, just the usual long string of irritating and annoying ones. 14 months post partum they're all forgotten and I'm eager to do it again. You'll remember it sucking, but you're likely to forget how bad it was.

@Revel: I have many triggers, not just hormones although that is one big one. Three in three weeks was pretty normal for me before being pregnant ..... if not more. And they could last days. I had quit my job before ttc so dh and I decided I should just stay unemployed because stress is a huge migraine trigger for me, as is bright office lights, and I wanted to take the least amount if meds as possible so we tried to get rid of my triggers and make it possible for me to always be able to lay down when I needed to.

And omg thank goodness I did that. My first trimester was awful, it was pretty much daily migraines, I was in the er every other weekend because they got to the point that I just couldn't handle it. But the other days were just me laying on the couch, not doing anything because even the light from the tv bothered my head.

It did get better half way through the second trimester and the third trimester was awesome. I still had to be careful with my triggers, but no er visits.

But then lo was born. I had issues breastfeeding so I had to stop, my milk dried up, and back came the daily migraines. It was impossible to take care of a baby (I'm a sahm) so I ended up having surgery, I have a nerve stimulator implanted in my neck. It didn't cure my migraines but at least they aren't daily. Scary thing is they still come like crazy when I get my period so I'm still terrified of what will happen next time I get pregnant ..... but that is life.

I hear many people never have a migraine ever again after their baby was born. I wasn't so lucky.... but hopefully you will be one of those people! Hope you start feeling better soon!

I sometimes thought that... but now that DS is 8 months old I for sure know I want another one. But it also scares me because I know I'll have a LO to care for while being sick to my stomach for weeks. I was sick, vomiting EVERY day until 18 weeks. It was SOO so hard.

I have thought about getting pregnant soon but I could not care for a LO under 1 yo while getting sick every day.

Yes. we aren't having more. My husband is fine with it and he's promised to help remind me how horrible this has been. Honestly I can't see how anyone can have more than one pregnancy (though I know many women aren't so bad. Or they're way tougher than me). Anyway I am DONE after this. I don't care if I ride unicorns and poop rainbows during trimester 2 and 3... 8 weeks of Awful (or more--who knows what's ahead) is too many.

Edited to add, this is exactly why I myself am an only child (my mother seriously had the worst pregnancy i've ever heard of where mom and baby came out healthy after delivery). And i had a great childhood. :)

Sorry for the threadjack, but

@artbee: what was you migraine experience like? I just had my third in three weeks today. In the year or so leading up to when I became PG, I had gotten one almost every month about a week before my period, so I know they are hormonal for me. I've heard that type can actually improve with pregnancy, but three in three weeks is unheard of for me. I am 11 and a half weeks now so hoping for some relief in the second tri. Mine start with aura and then progress to the terrible headache, so I am out of commission for several hours at least each time.

Nope. Migraines did. I've had migraines my whole life but they were way worse in pregnancy, and the guilt of taking meds with a baby in my belly is awful. Plus next time around when I have a migraine there will be no laying on the couch all day, ill have a toddler to chase around.

But I tell myself its 9 months of hell for a lifetime of happiness, I feel like it's totally worth it :)

OMG YES! My morning sickness was SO bad with my son that I told my husband we were only having one. No way was i gonna do this all over again! But then years passed and naturally you kinda forget, and here we are with another baby. I can't believe I went through a 2nd pregnancy though. With my son, I had all day every day nausea for 14 weeks. I threw up multiple times a day for months. It was HORRIBLE. But you know what? it wasn't AS bad the 2nd time around. I took unisom+B6 (OMG lifesaver) and I was able to deal with it. Don't get me wrong...it was still bad!! But not "I'm gonna kill you if you eat anything other than crackers and water around me" feeling.

My entire pregnancy made me lean more towards 2 kids than 3 (we just have 1 now, and are considering 3, but after my first pregnancy I am not so sure. I had hyper emesis, gestational diabetes, and pregnancy induced hypertension, so on top of puking several times per day from 6 weeks until my LO was born, I was monitoring my BP 4 times per day and taking BP meds, and poking my finger 6 times per day and monitoring my diet.

I did love being pregnant despite all that, I just don't know how I would manage all that while caring for 1-2 other kids.

Not morning sickness specifically (mine was only nausea and only lasted from weeks 6-10), but the combination of morning sickness and all the shittiness of the 3rd trimester did make me reconsider things a bit. I definitely want them spaced farther apart now.

@rahlyrah: Oh, I can totally relate! If I can offer you some hope, I am at 11 and half weeks now, and had the same breakdown you did several times over my sixth and seventh weeks. I actually started to have some better days in week 8, and have seen marked improvement since week 9. I am not 100%, but I don't feel nearly as bad. So, you may not be looking a 4-7 weeks straight of sickness - even if it lasts that long, you will likely have some good days.

Also, I heard the HB yesterday so my drop in symptoms was not indicative of any problems - something that crossed my mind as I was feeling better.

In terms of your question - we are unsure if we will be one and done or have more - but I don't think the sickness I had would stop me either way.

I had HG, too, and when I was pregnant with my first, I told my husband to remind me that I never wanted to do this again. And then I had DD and immediately felt better and forgot all about my misery. :) Even though I wasn't as sick with my second, I remember it a little better, and it's factoring into our discussion about having a third. I'm not sure I can handle two toddlers and HG again...

Yes! I was throwing up multiple time a day for 24 weeks. And I generally hated pregnancy for all 41 weeks. I was begging to adopt our next kids (which we plan to do one day anyway). Then I had LO. I would be pregnant a million times over for her. It's amazing. We seriously love her and being parents so much that we're pretty much NTNP from here on out.
