@MamaG: Yes, this exactly. My daughter did have lice and it was absolutely horrible trying to clean everything. She snuggles in bed with us as well, so in addition to trying to figure out/clean everywhere her head had been, I also had to clean our bedroom.

My daughter had it in February. They also had an "outbreak" early in summer, where we didn't end up with it. I don't ever want either of my girls to have it again. We take a couple of precautions now. Our older daughter (4) uses a shampoo that is preventative (has mint and tea tree oil). I use it as well for me. I will use it on our younger as well when she's a little older.

We have a nit comb and I will periodically comb with it. Not as often now that we are so far removed from it.

I wouldn't remove my kid because someone else has it. It is ridiculously common in young kids. And trust me it sucked that my girl has hair almost to her bottom and sleeps with a ridiculous number of stuffed animals. And at the time she had it would also snuggle with us in the morning. It was a lot of work to clean our house in very quick order.

We've never gotten a notice so I would like to believe it's never happened. I would hope that they would notify us if there has been a scare or outbreak.

We had one recently. They disinfected the entire building and had everyone take home their blankets/toys/clothes/etc to clean at home.

We haven't received any notice. Hoping it's because there's been zero occurrences vs failure to notify. Eek!

No, they just sent my kid home with lice. I was pissed. They didn't tell us because the lice was in a different classroom from hers, completely disregarding the fact that you have to walk through that classroom to get to the others, kids have siblings, and the teachers rotate.

We got a notification that someone in the preschool connected to our daycare had lice, but no one so far in LO's class (whew). The kids don't share the same space so I wasn't that worried.

Our daycare has had lice scares twice now. One time it was just some kid in the school, but another time it was a kid in Xander's class. Whenever they've had it, they put a sign on the front door notifying everyone that there's been exposure to lice. Then they bag up ALL their stuff in garbage bags for us to take home and attempt to clean, haha. And then do checks throughout the day of the kids that are still there to make sure no one had caught it. We've been lucky so far not to get it!

We've gotten notices for other kids having lice twice now. Both times the teachers told us they checked all the other kids to make sure they didn't have it and told all the parents to wash the kids nap sheets/blankets. That was it tho. I think they cleaned the room as well. But the lice didn't spread as far as I know. We didn't check for lice

We got our first lice notification last week. And another a couple days later when it had spread and two additional kids had it. They're taking every precaution, cleaning down the rooms every day, bagging all the kids' belongings in garbage bags, etc.

DS doesn't nap there (half day) and we're taking every precaution and checking DS for the next two weeks +.... DH wanted to pull him out of school this month! (Silly overreaction). I told him I've heard it happens a lot in schools/daycares...

Have your kids had lice? Or other kids at your daycare/preschool? Do you do head checks regularly?
