Yes, my DD started to ask me to stop telling certain stories at 2.5. Often I was talking to my mom and the stories were of things that I wouldn't tell just anyone, like really minor behavioural problems at daycare of some regression with potty training. I guess these things were sensitive enough subjects for her that she didn't even want her granny to know. I don't think this is a bad thing, it makes me believe that she'll be able to ask people, kids and adults, to stop doing something when it's making her uncomfortable. Everyone is different but maybe it's just a matter of needing some privacy around certain subjects as well.

No, but he's only 3 and my youngest is 10 months. He's told me to stop singing though.

@littlejoy: my lo loves to hear stories about herself too. It's just been twice there was a story that she said no, no don't tell that. I stopped both times and asked her about it later. She had her reasons even though I wouldn't have thought they were embarrassing stories. But it did open up good convos with her.

Mine is only 19 months so no. I do try to be conscientious of what I talk about relating to her when she is around though to set a good example for the future. I was a very sensitive child and my parents Often disregarded my wishes about sharing stories about me. It was an awful feeling.

My dad LOVES telling embarrassing stories about me & my sister. I've ALWAYS been affected by it. I think I remember being 4 or 5, and feeling really embarrassed by him.

In this case, I think your LO sounds totally normal (the OTHER normal is a kid who loves hearing stories of themselves (ie: my sister LOVES the stories)). Maybe try to remind yourself to reign it in, and it could encourage her to come out of her shell and tell stories herself?

My older lo is 4 and i think she's asked me twice. Both times it was about something I didn't realize she didn't want shared. One time it was about how one of her friends treated her and another time it was something I thought was really cute she did. I asked her about it later and she had her reasons. Even though I remember being very self conscious as a kid I was surprised with how young it started.

Looking at the other thread made me start wondering if me and my LO just got self conscious at a younger age than most or what age it started at for others.
