I would just model whatever you want to focus on him picking up a lot and see if he starts doing it - I didn't even realize I shook my head for no so much until A started doing it every time I would. They love to imitate us.</p> <p>A started waving/high fiving around 7 months, clapping around 8 months, shaking her head no at 9.5 months (she will do it even if she just hears the word no). She hasn't pointed. I have been teaching her "I don't know" (where she puts her hands face up by her shoulders) this week, and she picked that up quickly. She waves 'bye' sometimes, not consistently. I don't know what the norm is but I'm pretty sure my niece was doing way more by 9 months and I don't worry that my LO is "behind". She just started clapping with open hands two weeks ago after clapping with fists for a while. We are trying to teach her to wave, and sometimes it looks like she's starting to, but I wouldn't call it consistent at all. She definitely shakes her head no when she's done eating! It's cute. I wouldn't worry though ...
