DD1 didn't really start speaking intelligible words until right around her second birthday, when we were staying in the US for two months. She picked up 'mommy', which I was not a fan of, but now that we're in England, and have been for a month and a half, she has switched back to mummy, thank goodness! Other than that, I don't hear an accent with her yet, but I'm fairly sure both girls will sound mostly British, with maybe a tinge of American in there from me, and the odd Aussie phrase in there from DH. We'll see!

We spent a few weeks with our families in Alabama in June and she's had a very southern accent ever since!

@loveisstrange: My husband is determined to get any kids we have to call me Mum. His dad's dad was English so he grew up calling his mom Mum.

@travelgirl1: She honestly didnt have very many words when we left, so I think it went away quick. It was more general words.

@loveisstrange: Awwww wow, that happened quickly! Did she have a British accent from the region you lived in? Or more of a generic accent?

@Arden: @looch: Amazing that they learned two languages. It's such a valuable skill for when they're older!

@Dandelion: Maybe that's how A's accent will develop, mainly like ours but with a twang. That would be cool

Yes, we are northern parents raising our kids in the southern usa. Most of the time he keeps our accents, but I've heard some twang come out.

@travelgirl1: it used to be all American. It was around the time he started full time daycare that it changed since he was around a UK English speaker. For example, the way he says "can't" is very British and he uses the word "nappy", among others.

@Arden: my son used to sound like that, but with English and French. He didn't start really straightening them out until about 2.5, but we still get a random wrong language word here and there, and sometimes sentences using all three of his languages! It's so fun to watch them absorb language and use it in different ways in different situations.

She doesn't have an accent so much but she's using a lot of sentences with two languages randomly mixed up. Like three words in English and four in Albanian. I think it's really cute!

My son speaks German with a Swiss German accent, it's what he hears around our house. He speaks English with an American accent, too.

@lamariniere: has it always been that way or did it change? It's so funny, with A the way she says "more" and "bear" are totally, totally North American. She used to say those words just like me.

My son uses some British vocab and occasionally uses British pronunciation for certain words since he is around people who speak British English. I think when he speaks French his accent skews American for some words.

My 21-month-old is starting to lose her Yorkshire accent and is seriously sounding Canadian. I'm delighted and shocked in equal measures.

Did your LO ever start to change accents? I didn't expect this until she started school!
