The only thing that I've done a 180 on is co-sleeping. Was totally against it before baby; then I let her co-sleep and she immediately started sleeping through the night. My sleep is worth more than my philosophy, so in the bed she goes!!

I don't think I really had a parent philosophy pre-baby.

I am way more regimented and obsessed with baby sleep than I ever thought I'd be though. It's really important to me that we are home as much as possible for his naps and for bedtime and I'm sure our friends and family think I've got a giant pickle up my butt about it!

I don't think I really had a parenting philosophy before having kids but once I was pregnant I started getting into being more green/natural on a lot of things and I've gotten a lot more into that since LO was born.

I'm pretty similar to you - I ended up being way more flexible than I thought would be good for baby. But now I think that flexibility was good for baby.

I don't think I had a parenting philosophy before we had kids! My main belief back then was to not spoil the kids. It's a lot harder than I thought!

We've successfully stopped him from going to the deli, where the owner would give him free candy. And we've cut way back on screen time, after he started begging for it (after our big trip overseas). We do lots of little things like that and they help, but I still think our kids are more spoiled than past generations.

I don't think so. My philosophy was always try to be flexible and do whatever is safest/healthiest for my LO. For example, I knew I didn't want to use a pacifier, but I also knew that my LO might want to use a pacifier so we bought some just in case. I'm in the never say never camp when it comes to babies.

FYI, she didn't want the pacifier..... she had reflux so she cried A LOT and I tried and tried to get her to take the pacifier but she just didn't want it. She turned out to be a thumb sucker :)

Mine definitely has!

Before I got pregnant/had E:

-I would have scoffed at the idea of cloth diapers (as most of my friends and family do--until they actually see them) had I realized people use them. Actually, I probably never would have even known about them or considered them were it not for HB :)

-I always planned on breastfeeding, but thought I would only feed him on a strict, 2 hour schedule. Yeah, little dude is fed on demand, and he's VERY demanding.

-I assumed I would circumcise any son I had--but we did not have E circumcised. This one's not so much a philosophy, but a decision we made that surprised me a little bit.

-We thought E would be in his own crib, in his own room, almost from the get-go. We have a pack n play with a newborn napper in our bedroom, but had only planned on using it until my mom left when he was 2 weeks old, as she was using the futon in the nursery. She left 3 weeks ago, and E shares our bed with us. This was the big change for us, I NEVER thought I'd be okay sharing a bed with my infant, but I feel better having him close, he can nurse without me getting up, we both get more sleep, and I love having his little body curled into mine.

Has your parenting philosophy changed since you got pregnant/had your LO? If so, how? Were you surprised by the changes/decisions you made?
