Anonymity contributes for sure but my husband's paper (he is a journalist) uses facebook for comments and people still say some pretty awful things. </p> <p>People also say/write/email pretty awful things to reporters, so it makes me happy to see you all react to the comments this way. My cousin's 2 year old son has a really rare disease that would have killed him if he'd been born even 20 years ago or less. Their local news did a story on him (to help get the word out because even doctors are rarely aware of it and can have trouble diagnosing it), and the comments were just horrible. No matter what the story is about people always post extremely mean things either about the author of the post or the content. I feel like people like to hide behind the anonymity of their online accounts and just spew out negativity. The same applies for some online forums, one person posts a question and people respond with really horrible things.<br /> I wonder why some people are so mean online and seem so full of hate. </p>
