We've gone away at least 7 times, the longest being 4 nights. We just did our first two-night trip with my parents watching 2 kids and it was fine. With two, my only night away from the kids was for a sleep study a few weeks ago. Hoping for another night away for our anniversary in October. I haven't yet. We're planning a week to 10 day long trip without her when she's 18-20 months old. DH is probably going to go out of town for a night next month. We:</p> <p>- Went to Italy for 8 days when they were 15 months &amp; 3 years.</p> <p>- Went to Miami for a weekend for a wedding when they were 3.5 and almost 2.</p> <p>- Just now went to Bermuda for 5 days at ages 2 and 4.</p> <p>For the longer trips, my inlaws watched them at their house; for the short one my SIL and her friend watched them at ours. We feel so blessed to have people willing to do this for us - I think it's good for everyone involved. We did 5 days away when he was 8 months old, 4 days when he was 15 months and a couple of shorter trips 1-2 days for work issues where DH and I both had to travel. He always stays with my mom or my MIL. We are leaving him twice this fall, once for 5 days with my mom and once for a week with my MIL and FIL. The first was for a wedding at 5 months old. It was only overnight (less than 24 hours) and my mom watched him. After he turned one we would have a weekend away every few months thanks to my mom. I spent 2 nights away when I was in the hospital having W, and my husband stayed with me, but he went home every night to do dinner and bedtime and then my parents stayed overnight and took him to daycare. It's easier to just leave them overnight then wake them up to take them home after a date night.</p> <p>For my 9 month old:<br /> One night when he was 6 months (just me away)<br /> One night when he was 8 months (just me away)<br /> We won't both leave him overnight until he's weaned. He tends to scream at night if I'm not there and I don't want anyone else to have to deal with that except my husband. The first time we went away, my son was about 16 months. As they have gotten older, I've gotten more comfortable with it.
