I wore DS during the reception portion of the wedding, so at least I was hands-free while eating. As for cute outfit, at least my skirt was cute, and my baby is my best accessory! :D

@travelgirl1: I took Owen to a wedding in Boston when he was nine months. He was super-social and wanted to see everything, so having him in a hip carry worked really well (I used the Scootababy). During dinner, he sat in a highchair and made friends with everyone. Afterwards, I alternated between having him in the carrier and letting him explore and crawl around a bit.

Oh, and besides the temperature factor, I think hip carries - in a RS or Ergo or whatever - will help you still look semi-formal and not obscure your dress. I think that was the main reason I chose the Scootababy for the wedding and not our Beco. :)

@travelgirl1: Side carry probably would be cooler. I put DS in the front carry so he'd nap (which he did for over an hour!) And it wasn't unbearably hot. I think, since it's an evening wedding, you'd probably be fine. :)

@mrsmate: @Honeybee: Yeah it will be scorching but the wedding's at 7.30pm so it will have cooled down then, and I thought if I wore her on my hip it might be a bit cooler for us both than front carry?

@looch: Yeah I keep toying with this.. I don't want to bring our UBV because we're taking lots of flights (going to England too) and I don't trust the airline not to smash the heck out of it, but then don't want to buy a different one because this trip is already busting our ass cash wise. Also, it would be hard to fit the cases plus a stroller in the small European cars we'll have to hire.

@yerpie110: Yeah A doesn't nap on a stroller either, she's too nosey and has to be looking around, ha ha.

My SIL is getting married in two weeks and I plan on putting LO in the Ergo for most of the reception! Unfortunately she doesn't nap well in her stroller, although that's what I plan on using when she's awake just so she'll have somewhere to sit. But being that we'll be there from 7am-5pm (DH is a groomsmen), she's going to need to nap! I already told my SIL that I'm going to have to change because I don't want to ruin my dress! Luckily, she could care less. I've worn LO for 3+ hours and was fine so I imagine I can still dance the afternoon away. And it's indoors with AC so no heat to contend with. Wish me luck!

I'd bring a stroller. I went to southern Italy around the same time/age as your LO and having a place to sit him down so I could let him eat or just hang out. The temps were soaring into the 100s every day!

I wore DS at about 3 months at a summer (outdoor) wedding. I used the Ergo in the front carry position, and it was fine. I'm sure I wasn't the most fashionable person at that wedding, but I didn't have to be, lol, since I was just a guest. It was hot, so I just stripped DS down to his little chinos (and rolled his pants into capris). Luckily, my dress was short and breezy, and the reception area was shaded, so it wasn't too bad.

Eta: It was July in Montana, so it was hot (90's), but pretty low humidity. I'd be worried about the humidity in Spain than the heat, thouh.

We're going to a wedding in June out of state and won't be traveling with a stroller. I'm interested to hear others' responses. I'm worried about a) it being too damn hot, b) messing with the amazing dress I'm going to wear (rent the runway FTW!), and c) how will I dance all night if I've got a sleeping baby strapped to my chest?

I'm thinking of begging aquaintences and/or strangers for a borrowed stroller...

@travelgirl1: You're totally justified in your paranoia :). Ring slings are awesome though! They're (whoever that is) actually recommending that RS users don't use any reclined holds anymore. We started using our RS a ton over the past few months in a hip carry. She loves being carried, but doesn't love that she can't see everything in the Ergo or Beco. Using the RS solves that! When done correctly, baby is seated with knees out and above bum just like in the Ergo.

Won't Spain in August be very hot? I couldn't babywear much in the summer months bc DD and I would both be sweating in minutes.

@Weagle: Thanks : ) I haven't ever worn a ring sling so I really don't know, I just know the Ergo is very good for her hips and I'm paranoid because of her hip dysplasia... I actually only thought ring slings were worn across the body with the baby lying in them so I'm a bit of a ring sling ignorant, ha ha.

I haven't at a wedding, but I just wanted to point out that a hip carry in a ring sling is no different than carrying her on your hip without it... But without the tired arms :). I don't know if she's allowed to do hip carries, but I'm assuming so since you're doing it with the ergo.

We're taking A to a family wedding in Spain in August when she'll be nine months old. I doubt we'll take a stroller so I thought I could wear her. If she's just in my arms she'll get heavy quickly and people might take her off me and I can't speak Spanish very well so I worry about offending people when a) I don't want them to take her and b) I want her back!

I have the Ergo... I'm not comfortable with ring slings because I'm not sure they'd hold her hips in the best position for her (sorry if I'm wrong about that!) so I thought I could use the hip wearing position with the Ergo.

Has anyone worn their baby to a wedding? Did it look okay with your outfit? Ha I've obviously got my priorities right : ) Did it all work out? Extra points for pictures!
