Being called a cracker or a honky or just being referred to as "white girl" was an almost daily occurrence. It was meant in a malicious way too. I had kids in middle and high school who wouldn't talk to me because I was white. I know in the overall demographics of the US, I'm not a racial minority but I very much was growing up. </p> <p>That's one of the reasons I get really angry with people of any race that pull the race card or assume that others have it better or worse than they do because of their race. While I was at Auschwitz I was with my friend who's Jewish and the rest of the group wasn't. So they said all sorts of things, not meaning to be hurtful but it was just stupid and innapropriate. Lots of people even took pictures of the gas chambers which my friend and I just found so weird. Why would you want a picture of where they murdered millions of people? I have a feeling some of them didn't even know what it meant, but it still hurt. One of them said it to me once and when I didn't laugh said, "oh, I forgot you were Jewish." Yeah, that's why you shouldn't say that to me, because I'm Jewish and not because it's stupid and mean. </p> <p>I've heard lots of things like that, I especially hate the Jew joke about ashtrays and the Holocaust. I've been to Auschwitz and it's no joke. </p> <p>I do worry that LO will have to hear things like that too. Have you experienced racism, and are you affraid your LO will have to deal with it too? </p>
