It was Friday right after work on a holiday (labor day) weekend and he had his cousin and her friend coming into town. We had been dating 3 years and definitely had our issues BUT I was extremely upset and angry that he would feel justified in a phone call. I drove my butt over to his place and made him hash it out with me face to face. I met my husband a month after the breakup so it really was the best thing that could have happened for me! We were at different colleges 8 HOURS apart and I drove down to see him in person and break up with him. He knew we had things to "talk about" and after we had our talk at dinner, I think I spent the night and then drove back to my parents house which was only 2 hours away. He asked a friend to do it for him. I broke up with my ex of 7 1/2 years by phone. We were long distance and I wasn't going to see him for a long time, I caught him in a big big big lie so I just wanted to get it done right then. I'm a big believer in having important conversations face to face. But long distance relationships are tough to end in person. So those do get ended over the phone... the alternative though is to fly across the country, break up with someone and then fly back. That's a pretty expensive breakup.
