I think that the idea of spoiling a 5 month old is completely ridiculous! People just love to criticize.

I know that some family members think I'm too strict, or at least they used to. I'm not, I just thinks kids, even young toddlers, need limits. They would roll their eyes at me for demonstrating gentle hands when LO was still very little, taking his sippy cup away when he throws it even when the sippy cup was a brand new thing, ending meals when he throws food, having a set bedtime for him, etc. But now that he's getting a little bit older they seriously comment all the time on how well-behaved and happy he is, though I'm still not sure they see the correlation!

Yes, our parents do. They think playing with them = spoiling because they never played with us.

Yep, my MIL loves to tell me this, apparently the whole family thinks so. So I tend to my kids when they cry or talk to me.

Yes! My family says I'm making it so she isn't content to be alone. Well why would a baby be content all alone? Besides, I like being needed!

Yes, when they were both brand new, but I don't care or regret it. If I'm happy and the baby is happy, then nobody else's 2 cents counts.

You will never regret having snuggle time, but you may regret not doing it, so any critics can go shove it.

Oh my gosh yes.

I'm spoiling her because: I hold her/wear her all the time, I let her eat snacks in the car, I nurse on demand, I give her my direct attention when she asks for it, I don't force her to give affection (like kisses for grandparents), etc, etc, eyc.

I'm mean and uptight because: I don't let her eat crap/drink juice, I don't let her have screen time, I don't buy her a million plastic toys, etc, etc, etc.

So apparently: giving love and attention = bad. Giving stuff and junk food = good. Eyeroll.

@Bao: does it really matter if they're spoiled if they don't act like brats? I mean, who cares if they get an "excess" of attention & things as long as they still have manners & know how to treat people (as well as a child can any way). I figure that as long as LO isn't acting like a brat & getting her way after throwing a fit anyone that says she is spoiled can suck it! lol
