After that, I want to be cremated and my ashes spread by my husband/family at all the places that were significant to us (like the place we were engaged, and married, the mountain we climbed on our honeymoon, etc. DH wants the same. I have no interest in a proper funeral...I want a big, happy wake, though....somewhere for my loved ones to gather and share happy memories about my life. I told him he'll be dead and won't have a say in the matter and I will bury him anyways because I can't stand the idea of shoving my husband's body into a fire and turning him into ashes. It reminds me of the way the Jews were treated during the Holocaust. Of course, I'll honor his wishes but even if he's cremated I want him to have a headstone at the cemetery where I will be buried so our kids will have a place to visit us together. Oh and there's absolutely no way his ashes will sit in a vase in our house. They will be spread out on farm ground somewhere, hopefully land we will own someday. We see lots of battles that involved court cases and ethics committees. I made it a point to talk to my parents about what they want to happen if they are incapacitated. As for me, I know I don't want to be on life support if my prognosis is poor. I wouldn't mind to be cremated, but I will have funds put aside should they want to bury me. I kind of want to leave that open. I seriously don't care after I die whether I'm reduced to ashes or laid in the ground. Whichever is easier for my loved ones. My DH adamantly wants to be buried. My dad passed away last year after two years batteling stage four cancer so in my world it is just a topic that comes up from time to time. I have a lawyer who did my Will for me. That's why I hate when people assume they'll live until their old. Please. People of ALL ages die everyday. My dad passed when he was only 42, my cousin at 31, my friend's baby at 10days old. Being healthy doesn't mean you'll live forever. My dad when I was 10 and my BIL who was a brother to me just under 2 years ago. Both were a absolute shock. My BILs hit us the hardest, he was only 35. So yes, my husband and I have talked about it in length. We desperately need to go put a will together and purchase a life insurance policy (I have a small one through work). I know that we want to be buried together, I know that I will not donate my organs but I think my husband will. We're unsure of where we want to be buried. My family is in NYC but his are here. My father is buried 2 hours north of NYC. His grandmother and BIL are all buried here. So we're not sure yet. We have talked about legal guardianship of our future children but we are still undecided as to whom will be the best option for our future children. Having gone through the heart wrenching task of trying to do right by my BIL after his sudden passing. I would not want to inflict that extra pain on our loved ones. It's a morbid subject for sure. We've been saying since before LO was born that we were going to go get everything in writing, but now that she's here there's no time to see a lawyer. With way too many people recently passing away (including the tragic accident of PennyLainne), I've had this topic on my mind. My friend's mom just passed away and it was pretty sudden. I'm pretty sure she didn't have anything decided or in order, because she thought she was relatively young and healthy, so her family struggled to figure out what they wanted to do for her. Since then my husband and I both discussed what we wanted. I really don't want to be cremated, so it's important to me that people know that. He said he would do whatever I was doing :)
