I am loving this post. I really want to do this in our kitchen, but it own't work will with our counters, so until I can convince DH to let me do the kitchen. It will have to wait. I think I am close to convincing him to go for the bathroom like amreis posted!

I helped my parents do theirs. It's not too hard!

Yes, we tiled a large backsplash and the entire wall behind our cooktop. What took the most time was taking down the old tile - what a pain! Then it was pretty easy from there.

@Cara M. 17: Love that look! Beautiful cabinets, too.

We DIYed short backsplashes in our bathrooms. I love the results! I thought it was really easy - invest in a trowel and a grout sponge if you haven't already. The hardest part was making the cuts. I think you can rent tile saws if you need to.

I guess I only have a picture of the one bathroom...
ETA: This was a progress picture... I don't have pics of the finished product :(

@Cara M. 17: the end result looks beautiful!! Thanks for the tips on how long it took. Thankfully (I guess) his parents will be here for a week so, we have some time for them to work on it.

my sister and I did my backsplash - it was all about patience but the hardest part was cutting around the outlets as Hellobeeboston said above, especially since the tiles we chose were like a puzzle, too.

Keep that water saw running, you'll need it!

@hellobeeboston: We had the same issue around the outlets. Also at the ends of the wall we had to cut them into small pieces and fit them like an expensive adult puzzle! Here are some pics!

Yes! Well, DH and my dad did it! We had a backsplash that was a mix of stone and glass and it was like a puzzle to put it together - so when they had to cut around outlets they had to be sure all if the pieces matched up --- they said that was the hardest! If the tiles had been uniform it would have been easier... I can find a pic and post if this isn't making sense

DH and I just put up a backsplash last week. Depending on the type of tile you choose, it can definitely be a lot of work. The first day took about 17 hours to hang the tile (24 sq ft of glass and stone mosaic). The next day we could seal it (30 mins), the following day we grouted (2-2 hours) and the final day we sealed again and caulked. Sounds like a lot but it is definitely doable with some patience and is so worth the work! Good luck!!

My inlaws are coming at the end of the month and my husband is going to work with his Dad to do a casing around our kitchen window and to put a backsplash up.

Have you done a backsplash? Were you happy with the results? What would you say was the hardest part?
