Yes and no. I always think of better answers after the fact!

But from what I can tell talking to people who do the interviewing, it seems like a lot of times it's just to get to know the person.. they can read your resume separately. Obviously not always the case but I don't think blanking is uncommon or a guarantee you won't get it!

Yes! I was asked which organizations do I network with. I floundered and gave two or three. The interviewer saved me from my lack of connections and said, I'll let you think about that some more. Later I emailed a follow up list of 10 more. She never replied but I was picked up so happy ending!!

By the way, I am so thankful for this thread. I have this perception that I'm the only one who bombs interviews so this makes me feel much better.

Also watch these shorts to cheer you up! https://www.edutopia.org/blog/film-festival-learning-from-failure-resilience

I blanked in an interview yesterday. I'm a product developer, applying for a product development position. I was asked to list products I developed at my last job. I came up with one. One. On the drive home I thought of at least a dozen. I think I covered well enough but I felt like an idiot.

Yep! Up until I had my LO I worked overnights. I was interviewing for a new overnight job and had just finished a shift just before the interview (interview at 8am!)

I blanked on the first question, which was, "so tell me about yourself" haha. In the end, I got the job and I still work there (just not overnight)

I feel like I do nothing but blank out completely in job interviews. I am terrible at them, I forget words...it's not pretty.

Yes! I just lost my train of thought and sat there for like a minute trying to find it again. I just focused on keeping a calm attitude and continued when I could. I got the job! Usually O really dwell on things but oddly I don't feel so embarrassed by this, maybe because I managed not to get flustered.

@HappyBaker: Dang pregnancy hormones... that almost happened to me when I was pregnant but I ran (waddled) to the bathroom before crying. It sucks when that happens at work!

@mrskansas: I haven't completely blanked but equally as embarrassing -- in one of my yearly review meetings with my manager I BURST into tears and near hysterical crying. His feedback wasn't even overly negative, it was just the way he worded it, and I was 9 months pregnant so...hormones! We were in a glass walled conference room and multiple people walking by later emailed me to ask if I had gotten laid off or fired!

Ummmm yes. when I was much younger I decided to put that I was proficient in a language that I took 7 years of, but it had been a while. Little did I know, one of the members of the panel that was interviewing me was from that country and tried engaging in a conversation and literally all I could remember was how to say "hello my name is". I totally blanked and was mortified.

...completely blanked during a job interview?

I had an interview yesterday for an internal position. It was probably the third question they asked me and right after I started answering my mind completely went blank. I couldn't even remember what he asked me. I said, "I am so sorry but my mind just went blank. Can you come back to that question?" Luckily two of the other interviewers laughed and said they shouldn't schedule interviews at 3 PM because of the mid-afternoon slump and we moved on. I was able to bounce back with great answers the remainder of the interview but I still keep replaying that in my head.

Has anyone else had this happen? Or anything else embarrassing to make me feel better? :silly:
