Yup. Teasing more than bullying, I suppose. Like someone else said, it certainly became less, the older I got. By high school, I would say it didn't happen anymore. It's amazing what that did to my trust though. Even today, I find it hard to believe that people like me.

@LuLu Mom: i'm so sorry you went through that!

@sorrycharlie: you have big BEAUTIFUL eyes! silly kids!

i was very lucky in that i was rarely teased and never bullied. a boy teased me once about being fat (i was wearing size 3 jeans at the time, so he wasn't even trying to be mean, he was just joking, but i didn't understand that when it happened) and it was so traumatic that i didn't eat for 3 days and passed out at a birthday party. then there was one other time my brother brought me into his french class and said something nasty about me in french thinking i didn't understand- only i took french, so i did, but i pretended not to, left smiling, and then hid under my hoodie and cried. just those two times being teased were enough to stay with me, i cannot imagine how awful it must be to face it on a regular basis. my heart goes out to any that has gone through it and the kids in it now. there's nothing cool or funny about being mean for the sake of being mean, it just makes you an asshole.

I was bullied in jr. high & beginning of HS, to the point of 3 boys being suspended. Luckily I did have great friends to stand by me and my older sister who actually brought it to a teacher's attention who then took it to administation. My school handled it well, even though I never had any intentions of bring it up myself. I was the cry in the bathroom but try & put on a tough front in class kind of person. Finally they left me alone since they didn't get the reaction they wanted (tears.)

I've been super short my whole life and I've been teased since kindergarten day 1 because of it. I didn't take it personally though. I've never wished to be taller. I'm 5'0 and proud!

I did develop faster in middle school than most and was pretty chesty. I got teased a lot and snarky comments were made to me daily. It was mortifying. I still get it today. Whenever I meet one of DH's work friends he tells me they say, "Gosh, your wife has big jugs!!"
Still embarrassing. I'm 5'0 and slender so I look out of proportion.

Yes. To this day I have somewhat awkward relationships with people because of developing a thick skin I am hyper sensitive.

@sorrycharlie: @Adira: Totally agree! I think because you aren't face to face with someone (although bullies seem to bully just fine when they are) it's even easier to forget how much someones words & actions can affect the heart of someone on the receiving end.

I've always hated the "sticks & stones" saying b/c the truth is words are powerful regardless of them being said aloud or typed!

@sorrycharlie: I'm just going to hope social media goes away by the time my baby's in school, haha! Or I'm going to try to keep him off it for as long as possible!!! I think the internet just makes it soooooooo much easier to bully people!! :(

I definitely remember excessive teasing and I'd come home crying some days, but now I don't even remember what any of it was about!!!!

And in high school I was called "Wookie" because of my arm hair... :( But the older we got, the less mean people were, so thankfully people DO mature. And I'm glad Facebook and all those things weren't around when I was in school!! I'm worried about my poor baby growing up in this social media age!

I was bullied quite significantly in high school....

I "busted" the group of girls I was friends with about their backstabbing ways (one of the only times I ever made waves) & told the QB that "no, I'm not going to do *that*".... combine that with going to a very small school (had less than 30 in my class) and I made my way to everyone's hate list pretty quick.

It got bad enough that I was places doing things I'd never heard of while I was out of town where it was physically impossible for me to have done, and I literally couldn't walk down the halls without being gossiped about. I'm incredibly thankful that it was before the days of cyber bullying b/c the regular at school, around town, and phone bullying was enough to send me into a 5 mth deep depression. I don't know if I wouldn't made it to adulthood in this day & age of bullying.

Apparently now I'm much bolder, more confident, and still get picked on. I guess I can just say I'm very popular for being "unpopular". lol

I only had problems in 9th grade when I was dating a senior who wasn't popular or anything (he was only 2 years older than me, but 3 grades older). The guys in my grade, especially a former boyfriend, made fun of me for it almost everyday.

Yes, I was bullied pretty frequently in middle school. It sucked. I hope LO doesn't have to go through it, but I also hope I can teach her ways to cope with it, and to never be the bully.

when I was in elementary school, some kids used to make fun of my eyes because they were big (well, they still are!). it made me very, very self-conscious about them until well into my high school years.

luckily, though, never bullied beyond that..although I'd call that teasing as opposed to bullying.

I really hope to teach LO to be tolerant and think before she acts/speaks.
