I was fired at 34 weeks pregnant. Enough said.

I did sue them, and we settled out of court.

Yes, my supervisor started in on my when I went for my IVF which is not protected. It worked and all of a sudden I was a terrible worker. I went to HR about it but it was too late (only 30 days). He wrote a scathing review which I got over turned because it was just plain wrong. I could either take it to the eeo office or go through the regular process not both. So I did the regular process and won. Then I got to leave and work at a better place.

Wow! I didn't know this was so common.

I thought for sure I would be fired as soon as my boss found out I was pregnant. I was wrong, thankfully, but I was a field person and I couldn't work after 6 months, realistically.

My husband did "unofficially" get fired for taking parental leave, however, which is totally not allowed in Canada. He hated the company he was working for though, and was looking for a new job. They gave him a healthy severance package, so we just took it as a head start in job hunting and didn't take any action.

He ended up with a job less than a week later with a much better company getting paid substantially better, so it all worked out for the best.

Yes, I was treated very badly (by an already horrible boss) when I returned from maternity leave. It was a lot of little things but the worst part had to do with my right to pump at work. I fought for my rights and my boss got fired.

My wife's situation is not illegal but they basically told her DO NOT get pregnant/have a baby. No light duty means she could be off work at any unknown point and they will not pay her insurance while she is out. So not only will we not have an income we have to pay extra just to keep insurance while she's not working. That along with what I imagine will be a lot of informal discrimination in the form of comments about being able to do her job, women on the force, etc. and I'm not really looking forward to this aspect of the future. She's a police officer by the way.

Also when I birth our baby she will not get time off since we don't live in a state that recognizes her as a parent. Awesome.

My situation wasn't illegal, I don't think, but it certainly seemed unfair at the time.
I was told that my prenatal appointments could be scheduled during the work day, as long as I had the vacation days to back them up.
Then, at about 25 weeks pregnant, I was told that this policy had changed, and I now had to take all of my appointments as unpaid time. Even though I had 2 weeks vacation to take, I wasn't approved to take my appointment time as PTO.

My boss asked me to work back my hours or forfeit pay for time taken for prenatal appointments. I am salaried professional staff and prohibiting a pregnant woman from attending her prenatal appointments is against the law for any worker. My brother is a lawyer and I sought his counsel immediately. I told my boss I would not be working any time back and then emailed her a copy of the Maternity Protection Act. Thankfully she was silenced after that email.

Yes, and I didn't do enough. Pregnancy discrimination in employment seems pretty common, unfortunately. I am so glad to be out of my old employer!!

Yes and I didn't do enough.
I had started to work for really in general bad people but I noticed a huge change of attitude when I said I was pregnant. I didn't want to make a big deal of it and they were in general just bad people so I wasn't really sure if it was discrimination since they were bad about lots of things. But it's still illegal to change the way you treat someone bc of their pregnancy.

Well I quit and verbally explained that to other faculty (along with the other questionable things they did) but did nothing else. The next girl they hire was pregnant, which they didn't know. When she announced her pregnancy they fired her. We both wrote lengthy letters to HR and talked to the office of diversity at the university at that point but it didn't do much.

Finally years later they're being tossed, or so I hear. But this is years of them treating people like crap and doing questionably legal things. I should have spoken up more and been harder to ignore, I tried to be as quiet as possible about it and it just allowed them to be crappy to a lot more people. Honestly I was almost more disappointed that I told people I respected and they all went and talked to them but did really very little to make them change.

I'm talking about things that would be actually illegal under the law, not just getting a side eye from someone!

And did you take action?

I was turned down for a job for being pregnant, but I didn't do anything other than complain to their HR. They claimed it was a misunderstanding and were very apologetic and told me to reapply. My husband was taking the bar at the time so we didn't do anything. Maybe if he had been admitted already we would have sued!

It would have been a bad job anyway. But sometimes I wish we would have sued! Oh well. I hope at least the person who interviewed me got in trouble.
