My recurring nightmare since childhood has been that I'm in an elevator and we're in a free fall. We were stuck in there for maybe ten minutes. But apparently it was enough time for the stench to manifest. The elevator repair dude jumped back to get away from the smell once the doors were opened. My last day of college, I was going to take my very last Russian language final. Our class was in this very old building on about the 6th floor. Of course, several of us get stuck in the elevator going up to take this godawful test. The elevator just started working magically after about 15 minutes, so we all went into class. But everyone was quietly taking the test, and no one really knew how to say 'shitty old elevator' in Russian, so we just let our professor assume we were all late. I am SO claustrophobic! DH's aunt also had a freak elevator accident once. It got stuck for a period of time, and then fell down the shaft and she broke both her legs and her jaw from the impact. I never thought about it until that happened to her. None of the buttons were working and nothing was lighting up. After 10 minutes, the elevator started moving up and then paused for a few seconds and then started moving down. When the doors open I literally JUMPED out.
