I couldn't believe how awesome my boobs looked when I got fitted after nursing. A properly fitting bra does wonders!

@sapphire: bahaha! That's hilarious. I'll be going to Nordstrom when I'm done nursing. I was there yesterday trying on some clothes, and ended up buying a couple of nice shirts and a dress, since I'm way to busty for most of what I have (unless it's cotton t-shirt material), and I'm getting sick of what does fit me. The lady who was helping me was telling me about how surprised she was when she got fitted there.

@LovelyPlum: You're right. There are equivalent sizes for cups/bands, so a 34D will fit the same cup area as a 36C, but the problem is that bras stretch, so if you are wearing the upper band size on one of the inner hooks, you have nowhere to go, and your bras won't support you anymore. Which is where most women go wrong, thinking that because it covers the cup area and doesn't dig in, it fits. But it's actually important to make sure that you are measured and using the outer hook. Hence, my revelation yesterday!

@schubr03: Ugh, yes! Boobs are expensive! Men have no idea!

Yes! For years I wore 36-38 B or C, I went for a bra fitting at Nordstrom pp and had a very similar experience as @sapphire: apparently I was a 34 DD-DDD! Things have deflated a bit post-nursing so I'm now 34D but still pretty different than what I thought.

Oh yes! The best professional bra fitting I had was at Nordstrom. I had been in a 38 DD, and they put me in a 34/36 H! Such a better fit, though.

In general, I think the conventional wisdom is that most women who aren't fitted correctly have too big of a band and too small of a cup.

I was fitted for new nursing bras over the summer and the size made me want to cry! I was about a 34GG before pregnancy and nursing took me up to a 36JJ. On the positive side of things, the bras were awesome and I felt more supported and, dare I say perky, than I had in months! No small feat when you're lugging these ladies around.

I was surprise that I had actually been wearing the correct size! I thought for sure I was wearing a band that was too small, but it turned out I wasn't.

Your fitting with three different size options would drive me up the wall. I was fitted once at Avenue, a plus size store. The clothes start at a size that's too big for me, but I figured my chest is so large they would have bras that fit for me (basically my boobs are plus-size). The sales lady measured me and at the time I was a 34 band, which they did not carry, She told me a larger rib cage and smaller bust size would work. I tried one on reluctantly and nope, I was spilling out of the cup. I'll stick with Nordstrom fittings.

So far during pregnancy I'm not surprised by my new bra size. Typically a change in 7-10lbs effects my breast size and so far I have gained 15 lbs.

@sapphire: I had a similar experience. Buying bras that fit perfectly was a revelation. I'm done nursing now. I should dig out my pre-pregnancy bras again. I had the best experience at Nordstrom with a bra fitting. It was money and time well spent.

Yes! I was flat chested in high school. Then I started taking BC (the pill) in college and WHAM! I got boobs. The first time I went to get fitted after being on BC for a while they told me I was a 34DD and I was surprised! The last fitting I went I was measured at 32J (awesome...NOT). It just gets more and more surprising each time. And more and more expensive! Ugh. I hate boobs! GO AWAY! 😡

Um, yes. The lady at Nordstrim laughed when I told her what size I had been wearing. I honestly thought my boobs were just weird and bras would fit funny. A professional measurement was a game changer.

Yep. Pre preg I was a 32 B. When I was measured at 16 weeks with LO1, I was a 32 DD!! I couldn't believe it--I always thought of DD boobs as being ginormous.

I wasn't sure if this should go in Body Image or Shopping...

But I was trying on sports bras today at VS and decided I should get checked. Pre-pregnancy I was (or thought I was 34B), during pregnancy I got fitted again and was a 34D (then I just used a band expander as my rib cage expanded until the end). A couple of weeks PP, I got fitted again and was told 34D. I don't feel like I've changed any, but I guess my rib cage has shrunk (finally!), because I was told 32DD to 32DDD, depending on the bra. I didn't even know that I could get those sizes! I'm still nursing, so I know it will all change again once we are done. I wonder where I'll end up. I've always been small-busted, but with a more curvy derrière. Now I feel like a pin-up doll! (Albeit one wearing baby food and crazy hair - LO loves pulling on my hair lately!)

Has anyone else been surprised/shocked at how your bust and rib cage has changed with pregnancy and nursing and beyond?
