I only got out once thanks to a person in the group who was a pro at them. I think the one we did together was his 12th or 14th. "American Housewife" did an escape room for her tween son's birthday in their basement. DH and I did it with another married couple. It was a sci-fi Area 51 type thing. Super fun! A bunch of times. I quite like them. We have only escaped once (and have gone with different groups of people-the constant is my hubby-) out of 5 times now. We were less than 5 minutes from escaping at our last room and there was some technical difficulties with one of the things in the room so they "gave us the win" but it didn't feel authentic. Also, one time, a person we went with just fooled around with the final lock because we knew we had no hope of escape, and he got it open and we escaped...haha. I don't count that either. I like them as long as the theme jives with me because it impacts the way the room is set up and the kinds of puzzles you need to do. Also, we have gone to three different company's escape rooms now and they are so mug better when they are set up and established by a "game maker" who does it as a job. It has a 30% escape rate.. we just missed getting out. The second was smaller and just 4 of us we did get out that one! They are so much fun though. I have friends that just did the same room last weekend and they didn't make it either. It was pretty impressive. I wasn't really participating (I'm on mat leave and was visiting with my baby) but of the three teams, two figured it out and one (hilariously, the one with all the managers) did not.
