Glad I did it once but it was cold, took a long time to find a tree the right size and it still ended up being a charlie brown kind of tree. I am not a fan of fake trees, but I would rather go to a christmas tree lot than cut down my own. The next two years we ended up getting a certain kind of tree that was really pokey, I think that helped keep him out of it. I love it! Unfortunately, the ones I like don't grow in this area, even at tree farms. Maybe one day, but for now, we like our tradition of getting a tree at home depot, leaving it wrapped in twine, and seeing what it looks like when we get home and unwrap it. I was going to ask again if she said $15 or $50, but then I did some googling and found that WA state sells permits for $10 and gives us designated areas where we can look for our own Christmas tree and cut it down ourselves! $10 plus gas and hopefully not too much frustration getting back home is a good deal to me. Ask me next week and ask me if the $10 permit and adventure into the woods was worth it. And it can make for fun memories. </p> <p>We always did when I was a kid. First, my cousin grew trees in land next to ours. Then years later we went to a local farm. It was really fun and I have fond memories of my dad using me to measure the trees (we'd get one 6 feet tall...which was me with my arm up in the air)</p> <p>It was dirty and messy but we'd dress for it. I preferred getting the tree to the actual decorating. </p> <p>I'm really allergic to pine though, so I've been using a fake tree since I've left home. My mom wasn't too happy about it.</p> <p>We have always had fake trees and DH had been trying to persuade me into getting a real tree. Well, today my vanpool rider told me that she gets a real tree cut for $15 each! She's going to see if other people can get the same deal. </p>
