They had been broken up for a year by that point, and I was straightforward with her immediately. Actually, DH is a "friend's ex" twice over with different groups of my friends. </p> <p>He and one of my childhood church friends had an on-again-off-again "thing" in junior high where they were never official. DH and I started dating the first time four years later. Childhood friend was pissed, but she never told us to our faces. She only told other people. She got over it eventually, and we're friends still today.</p> <p>After we broke up the first time, DH started dating one of my closest friends from elementary school. At the time they started dating, we weren't that close anymore, so it didn't bother me. Sometime after they broke up (a year or so?), DH and I got back together. I never heard if it bothered her. </p> <p>@artbee @rubies: My brother is currently dating one of my best friends. One of my other best friends married my cousin last year. In high school she and her best friend dated a pair of best friends. the four of them did everything together and both couples dated for 2ish years. Fast forward to their junior year in college and my sister runs into her friend's ex-boyfriend at the grocery store when she was home on break. They decided to get dinner and ended up dating. They are now married with two little girls. When we met he asked where I worked and mentioned his ex-girlfriend worked there. In his book they were never THAT serious but her family sent him letters saying he needed to propose and all kinds of crazy things. Only they were too scared to tell me and we were all hanging out at my house playing truth or dare, someone dared him to kiss me and she got pissed, lol. Fast forward a while and she's dating his friend. He didn't seem to mind because he had (obviously) moved on but he thought it was kind of shady. They got engaged after a while. Then, one night at the bar she was drunk and told DH that it should have been HIM! DH told her to shut her mouth and never said anything to the guy.<br /> We were invited to the wedding but chose not to go and he really hasn't spoken to his "friend" since. Sometimes you just have to move from the past. Friend 1, Friend 2 and The Guy all met in grad school. Friend 1 and The Guy dated for a few months. Fast forward six years later and Friend 1 is married and expecting a baby this fall and Friend 2 and The Guy just started dating late last year....after years of being just friends. Friend 1 is so upset and will bad mouth them any chance she can get!!!! Drama!</p> <p>Have you ever dated a friend's ex? How did it go? Did you and friends have any guidelines about this? </p>
