@wonderstruck: bahahahhahahahahahahahah too cute.

I would have def taken him swimming if I could, and if I couldn't, i'd feel guilty, yes. I'd try to make up for it with a treat or with a really fun bath time.

I can't remember a time that I did that to LO. I do feel really bad when we leave grandma's house though. He always grabs onto my mom and cries and says, "no bye, no bye."

My brother and I still remind my mom about the time she promised he could wear his Spiderman PJs and then forgot to wash them - it was the first time she ever broke a promise and we both cried (despite the fact that it had absolutely nothing to do with me! lol) I don't know exactly how old he was, but not even kindergartner age yet, so definitely a toddler. L is only 10 months old but I know that she's really hoping karma comes back for me on that one.

I'm such a softie this sounds sooo sad. I probably would have gone back in and did the swimming. I'm so weak!!

Before we had kids... I totally thought I was going to be the mean mom and LOs would have would have DH wrapped around their little fingers but it's been totally the opposite! :)

So I guess I got into the habit of going to the gym, working out for an hour while J played in the daycare and then taking him swimming in the pool. Apparently DH was doing the same thing whenever he takes him on the weekends!

Today, I just did a quick workout before dinner and J was absolutely heartbroken when we started walking to the car and he realized he didn't get to go swimming. I was crushed! He cried for nearly thirty minutes. I definitely felt bad that I had set the expectation for him and disappointed him.

Have you ever really disappointed your toddler?
